DESPERATE for no-leak nighttimes for 4yo

Hello!

My eldest little boy turned 4 in May and has been fully toilet-trained during the day for well over a year.

He is still very, very wet at night and I’m not concerned about this at all BUT both Pampers DryNites and Ninjamas (for age 4-7) still result in soaking through and/or leaking. He’s comes into our bed circa 1am which means a helluva lot of laundry every day, even with a decent mattress protector we need to launder it plus the sheet and, more often than not, duvet cover. And we don’t have a dryer.

I am going to check out the extent of the night time urination with the GP although, as I said, I’m not really concerned. He eats and drinks well during the day and is tall, well-built and dynamic. And I myself wasn’t dry at night until I was six. I would love to know, however, whether anyone has a similar experience as a Mum and, if so, what brand and sizing of nighttime pull-ups were leak-free?

I had the same problem with my 4.5 year old. Ditch the pull ups and go back to tape nappies. The pull ups were just too lose round my skinny lads legs. There is more flexibility with tape nappies.

I use Tesco Fred & flo size 7 and we do get the occasional leak but it's far far less frequent and often only enough for a damp patch on his jammies.

Alternatively my friends little boy did this and she started taking him for a wee at 10ish every night which made a huge difference and also helped get him dry at night generally. (Didn't disturb his sleep, he just went straight back down).

We ended up ‘lifting’ DS at our bedtime to do an extra wee, just to reduce the amount of washing. Nappies were more absorbant than pull ups. We insisted on ‘doubke emptying’ his bladder before bed - wee, bath, wee again.

Continence service said to front-load drinks - drink a LOT earlier in the day, reduce fir the last hour or so before bed - and avoid blackcurrant and other ‘dark’ fruit drinks.

And absorbant bedmats.

And double-made beds - sheet, bedmat, sheet, waterproof mattress cover. Just strip off the top layers to get a dry bed.

And waterproof duvet covers under the normal one, with 2 duvets - one on the bed, one ready to go.

Basically, everything to go from wet bed to dry bed in minimal time.

DS was fully dry at night for secondary school, but only just. It was a long, slow haul. The ERIC website is good.

I made a similar post recently as my 6 year old still wets the bed at night, apparently still considered normal. We had the same trouble with drynites so have switched back to pampers and thankfully no more leaking!

You can buy inserts from Amazon to add into nappies and pull ups to increase absorbency, can't find the link but I'm sure if you look on there you'll find something.

Tesco Fred and flo do size 8 now.

Take them for a wee at your bedtime or sainsburys nappy pants were always the best for us at nights. They were v full in the morning but never leaked.

Oh thank you so much for sharing. I know this kind of journey is far more common than is talked about.

You could try an incontinence pad inside the nappy as a liner?

Canyousewcushions · 02/08/2023 09:08

We found that wearing pants over the night nappy helped when we'd grown out of the largest size of nappy and had to move to the pull up style "pyjama pants".

We also found nappies better than pull ups. At times we did a nappy with a pull up on top!
