Stroller problems? New born and 3 year old

I'm due next March, my son is currently 2 and will turn 3 just after baby is born.
My biggest worry right now is the pushchair situation. My son still uses his pram often and he likes being in his pram, I don't want to stop him because baby is coming. I know by then he will be 3, but I'm worried if he sees baby he will also ask to go in too.

I'm also thinking the convenience and to just make my life easier, I know I want some sort of iso fox car seat for convenience, I had one with my son and was amazing. But the question I have is to I buy a double stroller and a single travel system, for the time I'm just going to shop I need to take the double. Or I'm also thinking to buy a double stroller and get a doona for baby.
I have no idea. Anyone been in similar situation any advise would be appreciated thank you x

We're using the pram we have for newborn baby which has a buggy board built in. I'm not buying a double pram for the few months we might use it as by 3.5 years my toddler really won't be in a pram. she will love a buggy board though.

Or just put the baby in a sling...
Or get your son a scooter or one of the attachments they can stand or sit on at the back of a buggy.
He might love his pram now, but at 3yrs he might want to be walking and he'll be getting big for it anyway.

Perfect thank you for your advise, I do keep thinking about a swing

For shortish journeys he'll soon get used to a buggy board. For full days out, you might have to rotate them, and end up carrying the baby if the toddler gets too tired/grumpy. I even ended up with my toddler sitting in the baby carseat that was clipped on the buggy a few times when I misjudged it- not ideal, but it did the job!

I probably wouldn't bother getting a double buggy "just in case", especially because the sorts of double "travel systems" that have capacity for a carseat as well end up being really expensive. If you see a regular double (that lies flat) on fb marketplace at a reasonable price, then that might be worth picking up for days out, and you can usually sell them on for not much less than you paid.

I wouldn't get a double for a three year old. It's good for children to get plenty of exercise, unless you're regularly doing ten mile hikes he will be fine to walk.

You can get a scooter and/or buggy board to help things along, plus sling for the baby.

TinyTeacher · 31/07/2023 20:23

Baby in sling or eldest on buggy board as others have said. Some kids do love their buggies though..... try to use it a bit less over the next month and see what happens. Ours often walk to somwhere next to the pram, and then I've got it for the way back ifthey're tired.

Yeah you're right thank you, I've spoke with partner and maybe a double will be a waste of money. We are just gonna get the chair attachment buggy board

Ok perfect thank you so much, yeah I never even thought to swap. My toddler isn't too bad at walking right now. I'm thinking maybe he always asks for his pram because I always say it lol. Over the next few months I'm just gonna try and get him used to walking more, I just worry about running off, but I suppose he will learn

Yeah after all the other comments too, this is definitely what I'm going to do. Thank you

We have a just 2yo and 6wo. I’m using a sling and encouraging toddler to walk as much as possible. So far so good. But 6wo was heavy (10lb9) so not sure how long I’ll be able to carry tbh. I was hoping 6 months so 2yo is 2.5! Buggy board is on the “to buy” list.

headcheffer · 31/07/2023 20:32

My first was 2.5 when my second came along and the double buggy was a godsend and continues to be on long days out 8 months later, however I don't use it day to day at all, just when we are out all day.

jallowpene · 31/07/2023 20:37

I got a lot of use out of a double buggy for that age gap, it was secondhand and not expensive. But we don't have a car so were often walking for 9 miles daily, plus the eldest still liked to nap so it was good for naps on the go. When we go on holiday and hire a car, we barely use the buggy even for the youngest as you're just going from door to car and then from car to the shop or whatever.

I'd get second hand phils and teds with double kit and car seat adaptors. It served me well for newborn and 2.4 year old.
I still use it as single and double for a long day out. They are 2.4 and 4.7 now. And have a smaller stroller to keep in the boot. ;)

Vicotto · 31/07/2023 20:53

i have a 2.5 year old & 9 week old and we got a second hand Bugaoboo Donkey off of Facebook Marketplace for about £400. It can be used as a single pram and then can also extend out to be used as a double. I wasn’t sure we’d get a lot of use out of it as my toddler wasn’t really using the stroller much but he’s actually used it more since baby came along (maybe a bit of jealousy that baby is in there) and I’m really glad we got it, he’s a very energetic boy & is a quick runner so it’s sometimes safer & easier for me to have him in there than try to run after him when I’ve got both of them alone! It can fit a maxi cosi car seat too with an adaptor. They do their own buggy board with seat too but I haven’t tried that yet, I might in the future when I feel more confident that my toddler won’t just throw himself off like a crazy stuntman 😂

Imenti · 31/07/2023 20:57

No advice on your question (sorry not helpful!) but my friend just sold an amazing Uppa Vista double buggy for £50 on Facebook marketplace so if you do decide you want one you can definitely get a bargain on there!

shakeitoffsis · 31/07/2023 21:14

My daughter was 3 and 2 months when baby was born. Never considered a double or even a buggy board. She walks and baby goes in the pram and that's that really 🤣
