Letting 2 month old nap in electric swing?!

I'll preface this by saying that I doubt anyone in the world is as anxious about SIDS as I am. I swore I would never co-sleep or get a swing/bouncer. But DS does. not. sleep. So I caved and bought an electric swing and he's been peacefully napping in it for 2 (!!!) hours.

I've been watching him the whole time. I tried moving him to his moses basket but he started fussing so I put him back.

Am I an awful mother!? Is this really dangerous? I'd never leave him overnight or unsupervised but we're at 2 hours and counting now. He's never napped so long and so peacefully.

Am I right in thinking that the risk is to do with their heads dropping forward this blocking their airways? So if I'm constantly watching it's not a problem?

Having a break from constant feeding and pacifying is AMAZING but I'm so worried. Views very much appreciated!!

I have a healthy 14 and 11 year old both of whom slept in their electric rocker quite happily. It's fine.

My DD is 3 and I used to do this all the time when she was 4 to say 12 weeks she loved it. Like you I was always keeping an eye but allowed me to have something to eat with 2 hands or get dressed etc x

Believe the current advice is 30 min maximum (due to head control/slumping and blocking airways) until 6 weeks old. After this 90 min maximum.

Hi, I had this problem and I just had a folding stand on the Moses basket. Have you tried a rocking stand? We had Clair de Lune's Folding crib for my first which was perfect for him and then when my daughter came along SHE WOULD NOT SLEEP IN IT. So we moved her to a Moses basket with rocking stand (It was a Clair de Lune one but it was the one that rocks side-to-side, not forwards and backwards. And she seemed to settle then, once she was asleep I could stop rocking her then... i think you get a contraption that you can attach to them that will rock it for you but haven't tried this! Good luck! x

When my son was a newborn he refused to be put down anywhere for a nap and would only sleep being held. Bought a swing when he was a few weeks old and it was a game changer, happily slept in it, sometimes for 3-4 hours. I just made sure it was supervised and it was also one with different recline settings so he could lay flat rather than being slightly upright.

Of course it’s dangerous. They’re at risk of asphyxiation. You may be “watching” them but it can happen while you are “watching” them and you wouldn’t even notice.

Guess it depends if you’re willing to take that risk. I’m not 🤷‍♀️
