Morning oracles in my phone: hit me with your snack ideas for a 4 year old please!

We're trying to limit her sugar (not stop, but we reached a point where it was almost constant sugar and it didn't do her any favours).

We're stuck in a loop of Jacob's crackers, rice cakes, wraps, cheese, mayo, crisps and, if we're lucky, oat cakes. Pancakes and cheese scones if we're feeling adventurous! There must be more out there for the poor girl 🤣

I used to offer an apple. If they are snacking because they're bored they'll usually refuse it but if they're hungry they'll eat it and Anthony you can look at something more filling like hummus and breadsticks.

We found our active DS was snacking because he wasn't getting enough protein. Have a read of the Caroline Walker Trust's guide for 1 to 4 yo and see if you're in track with her meals. It also has some snack suggestions Wink

Sweet peppers red, orange & yellow, sliced cherry tomatoes our faves are sugar drop tomatoes because they taste very sweet, cheese cubes, cucumber slices, cherries sliced, strawberries in season (if not allergic) sliced bananas with a little drizzle of rowse light & mild honey again if not allergic. My son has a sweet tooth n likes all these things, hope this helps xx

Mime doesn't eat loads between meals but eats well at each meal.

Typical snacks include, apple, banana, animal biscuits, dark choc rice cakes, scone, muffin (if out) nairns chocolate oaty biscuits, any home made cakes etc.

He won't eat sticks of pepper/cucumber or things like cherry toms as a snack. I don't blame him, it's not something that would appeal to me as a snack either!

@TweetyMcTweetFace No need to criticise other people's suggestions really is there, you can take the ideas or leave them, nobody asked what you or your child don't like to eat for snacks.

@Mamaraven I didn't even read the other posts! I was musing on our snack choices as mine just won't eat things like that.

A good natured post taken the wrong way but no worries.

Tend to aim for protein so sliced chicken and cucumber sticks (I roll the chicken slices around it like a wrap), boiled egg, chocolate covered nuts, big glass of milk (or a strawberry milkshake which is basically mushed strawberries and milk).

@TweetyMcTweetFace Fair enough,no harm done :) it's easy enough to do on the internet

Generally I would offer fruit or vegetables for a snack. If they’re likely to be very hungry then cheese and crackers, hummus and breadsticks or sugar free banana muffin

Peanut butter on toast with sliced banana
Greek yoghurt with blueberries/any fruit
