Ok so just to say this is not really affecting my life and it’s not some first world problem, more like just out of interest what other people do.

My DS is 2,5 years and we don’t take pushchair out anymore. We live next to a nice park and most of the days we are out there ( admittedly weather permitted ). We just walk around, there’s also a playground or just walk a bit further surrounding areas and streets. I usually carry with me a small toddler backpack but today I realised I probably need to get like a proper tote bag or something because of the stuff.
So normally I take
*his bottle of water
*small bottle for me
*some snacks - a banana or a couple of biscuits
*some toys
*tissues and wet wipes
*keys
*phone
*small container of bird seeds
*travel size sunscreen
*today because the weather was so unpredictable I had a denim jacket for him too

  • lip balm ( for me )

And probably something else depends of the situation.

Is this too much stuff for being out max 2-3 hours? 😂

Sounds fine to me.

Sounds fine. I continued to take the pushchair basically so that I could do any shopping I needed, not because they didn't walk. Was easier to carry everything that way. Toys, food, clothes Etc. We have beaches so bucket and spade, etc essential

Very similar, only i also take a change of clothes for toddler in case of an accident.

If I were looking to make my bag lighter (which I always am), I would leave:

toys: you're in the park/playground surely don't need to also bring his toys from home?

Suncream: if you're only put for 2/3 hours put it on just before you leave

Banana: it's the heaviest of all the snacks! Get him to eat a banana before you leave if you think he's to feel faint on the journey! Most two year olds can go a couple of hours between meals/with one small snack

Tissues: I'd probably just take a small pack of wipes if space was a real issue.

I don't generally take drinks or snacks out for 2-3 hours unless it's really, really hot.

Sounds like your DC is out of nappies which was always the biggest thing I needed to carry round. DC1 was a nightmare to train so even if popping out for half an hour at about age 6 we still needed wipes, nappy sacks for soiled clothes, spare pants and trousers.

This weird weather is the worst. Sometimes I need to bring raincoats and sunhats, jumpers and suncream. No idea what each hour will need!

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2023 12:35

I do tend to take a buggy with everything they could possibly need when doing a longer trip to the park though, enough stuff for a fortnight away usually!

aSofaNearYou · 29/07/2023 12:38

I don't take toys and I wouldn't take snacks for that length of time. I'd put sun cream on before I left. And I don't take bird seed - though it sounds like a good idea.

Doesn't really seem like a problem though, unless you're struggling with the weight!

Spare clothes for youngest
handy wipes/tissue
credit card size first aid kit
drinks x3 (3 of us)
inhaler and spacer
keys/phone/small purse

If we are going out for the day I would add suncream/lunch/snacks

Varies a lot.... Depends on weather, how far we are travelling and if everyone has done a wee before we head out!!!

If its close to home, and wemanage to time it so everyone has had a decent meal and a wee before we head out, then we travel prettt light. But if we're travelling by car, and the timing isn't ideal then I have the potty in the boot, several changes of clothes and enough snacks to feed a small army! Plus toys/books.....

We had one really difficult trip to an NCT place. All 3 kids found spectacular muddy puddles and also climbed on a lot of tree stumps and got covered in moss/bits of twig. We changed into spare clothes to have a snack, then headed back towards car. One toddler did a massive wee and was very upset. Had to carry him on my shoulders with his legs/bottom bare.... then the other toddler tripped, also bringing down my eldest who was holding his hand. COVERED in mud. Had to half strip them to get them in the car. Being a bit chilly made everyone hungry and we ran out of snacks. It was meant to be a short drive but the traffic was awful, and a had nothing to keep tired, half naked, hungry children distracted.....

Now I sometimes feel like I pack for a trip across Antarctica!!!!

I wouldn't bring any toys (or maybe one tiny car at most but we almost never use it), and snacks are optional tbh. Apart from that it all seems appropriate toddler supplies.
