Newborn and Bouncer?

Missguidedsmiles · 28/07/2023 19:09

Hi Guys! I have a newborn baby boy who is almost 4 days old..

I need to be able to put him down so as I can shower/do house chores..
Am I allowed to put him in a bouncer to stay whilst I do these?
I worry about his neck being too forward and blocking his airways..

Thoughts mamas please?

I don't think you can do that. He'll just keel over.

Try a sling. I had my baby permanently attached to me as a newborn - it meant I could get on with stuff!

I think op doesn't mean like a jumperoo thing?! But the bouncer seat?

Could you keep a moses basket downstairs?

Or a travel cot?

or a buggy that lies back flat

My daughter sits in a bouncer seat when I shower in the mornings and has done since she was tiny. I make sure I can see her at all times, she's back at a 45 degree angle and safely strapped in

YallaYallaaa · 28/07/2023 19:14

Bouncer seat that lies fairly flat should be fine! Try him, and if he looks comfy he probably is. Obviously stay right with him.

Changethetoner · 28/07/2023 19:15

Congratulations! You're allowed to do whatever you like, but it is not recommended to use a bouncer chair or carseat for long periods until baby has some more neck control.

Just lay baby flat, on his back, like you do when he sleeps. Put baby in the moses basket or cot, or even on the floor (on a clean mat or shawl) if it is only for a short while.

I’ve got a material changing mat that I’m not actually going to use for changing, just for somewhere to put baby for things like this. A playmat would probably be a safer option?

lavenderdilly · 28/07/2023 19:50

Yeah that's fine, a laid back bouncer, as long as head isn't lolling forwards. Put it in the bathroom with you, it'll be fine.

Highly recommend the tripp trapp with the newborn attachment, so bloody useful.

DuploTrain · 28/07/2023 19:54

A Moses basket, or the carrycot part of the pram would probably be best while he’s so tiny.

But if you’re supervising then it’s fine to try the bouncer and see if he looks comfy in it.

I used the Baby Bjorn bouncer from that early but only when awake. I don’t think they are recommended for sleeping so would transfer her into the Moses basket or onto me if she fell asleep. Also check if they are big enough for the bouncer you are using as some have lower weight limits.

TinyTeacher · 28/07/2023 20:06

I tilted ours right back when mine were tiny as I worried about lolling heads. Easiest way to have a wee/quick shower!

Tothepoint99 · 28/07/2023 20:27

Do you have anyone to help with the chores? You only gave birth 4 days ago!

If not, try a moses basket or something that keeps baby flatish. Sofa cushion on floor and rolled up towel behind ears so away from mouth if they turn head.

Thankyou for all your responses!

Yes the Tripp Trapp was so handy. Defo look on eBay marketplace for second hand versions of the main unit first! But you might prefer to buy the newborn attachment brand new.

Don't think you can do it, way too early. There are 3in1 highchairs, maybe try this?

Sorry op, but no not at 4 days old. Why wouldn't you use a moses basket or cot?

calorcalorcalor · 28/07/2023 21:34

we used a dockatot but never unsupervised, it was great for baby to lie in during the day though next to use so we could eat etc.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 28/07/2023 21:34

Baby bjorn bouncer should be ok. It's not too upright but flat would be preferable. Not for too long though. You could also use a sling. My babies lived in sling when they were diddy.

Congratulations

Lkahsvtv · 28/07/2023 21:34

I’d use the cot or Moses basket or pram at that age. I did buy a bouncer that pretty much lay them flat through when tilted back for when my DC were a little older

Bowlplatesoupandroll · 28/07/2023 21:35

I used to use car seat, moses basket, changing mat on floor, bouncer only when I was there until they were a bit stronger to support themselves.

We had this, it was amazing! Only the two in one version but the 3 in 1 looks even better. It was really handy to be able to eat dinner at night and have baby up at our level. The seat also tips right back if you want it to. It’s probably still not as good for their airway/spine development as just a flat mat would be for the first month or two though but after that if it’s for short periods of time this is really handy
