Anyone else experienced this?

My DS is 17 months old and has had diarrhoea now for 14 days. He had vomiting for 3 days before this. He is drinking water and isn't dehydrated but it's worrying.

We took him to the GP at day 7 of diarrhoea and they said to wait until after 14 days so we will take him back Monday hopefully.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this with their children?

No. But I might look at changing diet and adding roughage.

He has quite a lot of fibre in his diet already. I did wonder about cutting our wheat/dairy to see if that made a change

I was going to suggest this. 4-6 weeks for the gut to heal from dairy if it is this that is suddenly causing the upset. Have you introduced anything now into his diet?

There is a condition called toddler diarrhoea, it might be worth reading up on it to see if the advice can help?

DD had a dairy intolerance, really awful for her. I would try dropping milk for a bit and seeing, she actually improved after 24 hours. Too much fibre can also cause diarrhoea.

My son had this, it was toddler diarrhoea. Maybe triggered initially by a bug, but he had it on and off for 18 months or so. Was a right pain with the nursery when he first started, they kept sending him home til they realised it was just normal for him.

I'd not heard of toddler diarrhoea, thank you, just looked it up, I can imagine this is a nightmare with nursery! We've already lost two weeks! Hopefully not but definitely worth knowing, thanks.

It's a long time ago but my DS had this although a bit younger than yours after a tummy bug. GP told me to give him flat coke. It worked.

Yep we had this recently - diarrhoea for 3 + weeks. Dr suggested toddler diarrhoea. Luckily she did provided a stool sample at the Drs appt (came back negative for infection). Did my own research and read the same things as PP about a bug clearing the good bacteria and causing a lactose and/or fructose intolerance and to try exclusion for at least 4-6 weeks and slowly reintroduce over two weeks. We stopped dairy and within days the solid stools returned! Thank goodness, thought we’d never see the end of it and she kept getting sent home from nursery etc. Flags for concern would be lethargy, temperature, no wet nappy for more than 12 hours. I found they weren’t too worried at all about the diarrhoea just the wet nappies and so did my own research and got it resolved.
