DOUBLE BUGGY OR BUGGY BOARD (heavy toddler)

Was wondering for everyone’s suggestions which you would recommend for a newborn and a toddler (will be 2y6m once the new baby arrives).
DS is very big for his age, on the 95th centile for weight and off the scale for height. However he is not reliable with holding hands/refuses to use reigns/wants to be carried. He’s also a very fast runner so when we are going somewhere I usually put him in his buggy.
I was originally thinking a double buggy as I can’t see him tolerating standing on the buggy board and can imagine him trying to dart off it. However he is already 14kg and many buggy’s I see have a weight restriction.
What would everyone recommend? Also one which would preferably fit alright taking it on buses.
Thanks in advance 🤗

We have out and about nipper double.
Definitely get the moving front wheel not the fixed one like we got.

Does your son still nap if he's had a big day? If yes then 100% get a double buggy.

I had a similar age gap and bought a secondhand lightweight double from Facebook marketplace. Also had a buggy board for the main pram. Although I only used it for a few months it was invaluable when I was taking them out on my own- much easier to have them both strapped in once the older one had decided they'd had enough of walking! A lot of my friends with similar age gaps did the same. Easy to then sell on again/give away after as I suspect many people are in the same boat. I got a joie air twin one I think so might be too wide for a bus but it was lightweight and folded down flat so could keep it in the car/hallway. Buggy board still going strong now 18 months later!

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight limit on a pushchair, they're not like car seats.

There is a FB group called big babies and toddlers UK which might be good for this question?

We got a Phil and Ted's which is good for buses as it has the same footprint as a single buggy (and you can convert to a single when DC1 is older). But not as nice for 2 dc compared to being side by side - it's a compromise we accepted for convenience. Weight limit 25kg so will last ages (including longer days out when the dc are older).

We tried a buggy board but it was awkward to push, and we couldn't fold the buggy with it so we had all the inconvenience of an unfolded buggy but without the extra comfort of the second seat. Sometimes we used the sling for baby and a lightweight, easy to fold buggy when we needed to travel on buses (and wanted to be sure to get on even when the buggy space was being used).

Double buggy, every time. Just because a toddler is able to walk doesn't mean they will. And mine liked to jump off the buggy board while in motion, once while crossing the road.

The city jogger double has massive seats, my dd fit until about 3.5. I had a little carry cot attachment on it for my newborn until he was big enough to fit in the seat which does go pretty much totally flat and had an insert to protect his head. I wouldn't have been without it. It is quite wide though and didn't used to fit through our front door (terraced house)

Phil and Ted are great but we gave up on it as a double when the youngest was big enough to look around and start putting his arms out in the bottom seat. For a newborn and a toddler they're great and makes a handy stroller with loads of room underneath when you're only pushing one. Plus it's narrow.

I got both of ours second hand so didn't cost too much.

The buggy board was a pain in the arse. DD would jump off, I'd be knocking my ankles and the weight distribution felt quite off to me when pushing it up hills.
