DD is 14 weeks and last week I would’ve said things were getting easier. The last few days however she is hard to settle at night again and naps are IMPOSSIBLE. She won’t settle when rocked, in her sling, when feeding, nothing. She goes to sleep, then she twitches or otherwise suddenly is awake and crying - no doubt because she is overtired. When feeding she is constantly popping off the breast, arching her back. I always burp her and hold her upright after a feed and this has been fine so why now is she behaving like she constantly has some kind of digestive discomfort? What is going on??? Jabs were a week ago today, so I don’t see how it can still be those. Today is the first time I have had to put her down whilst crying, I just can’t see how I can go on with things like this and on this little sleep. I am supported but she only wants me, will only settle for me etc. I just can’t see how this is going to be manageable, especially since I don’t even think this is the 4 month sleep regression.

You could try Infacol for the digestive discomfort, this worked wonders for my DD when she was tiny.

The 4 month regression was a bit like this for us - difficult to get her to sleep and then frequent wakings once she was asleep. It’s tough but it passes. Not suggesting this as it doesn’t work for everyone but we introduced formula around this time so DH could give her a bottle and I could get some rest.

Other than that we tried wake windows (huckleberry is good for this), white noise and warming the crib with a HWB with varying success.

Get yourself some posh coffee and it will end I promise!

The arching and frequent waking up maybe indigestion. If you can't find Infacol, gripe water from a chemist also works.

Have you discussed this with your midwife, she may have some other suggestions to help.

Are you able to take her out in her pram for a walk? A change of scene for you and the rocking motion of the pram might help her sleep better.

If this behaviour only started after the jabs then it could still be a reaction to those.

Could be toothache, their milk teeth moving around can be really painful and its worse when lying down, something to do with more blood flowing to the gums and increasing sensation. Or it could be digestion problems.

I have no advice, parenting a baby is so hard.

Maybe ask a health visitor?

Op I remember now! At 4 months old my baby suddenly couldn’t sleeo at all without my nipple in his mouth. Was ridiculous. Lasted 4 weeks then got better. Was his teeth coming down.

Sounds like Colic.
You used to get drops from chemist but not an expert, speak to GP or Health Visitor to rule anything else out.

If it's digestive discomfort definitely try infacol, was a godsend for mine

Rooandtwo · 27/07/2023 15:52

I guess it could be worsening due to digestion, but in general this has been improving for her - she used to whine for hours before every poo the teething thing sounds plausible. Everyone says it’s too early but she does have slightly rosy cheeks lately and she’s forever sucking her hands and yes, wanting to keep suckling even when asleep…wondering if it’s time to give in and bring in a dummy..

Can the 4 month sleep regression mainly hit naps then?

I think it's just a tricky stage - they are out of the sleepy newborn stage but don't really know what to do with themselves now they are awake. Or how to get themselves to sleep. Things will settle in a few weeks. In the meanwhile infacol, a dummy and lots of coffee may help.
