Newborn highchair

Hi,

I was looking recommendations for a highchair I can use from newborn. We have a couple of dogs so will be easier if baby is up at a higher level away from them.
I don't want the stokke trip trapp as honestly I don't care about the longevity. I want the ability to fold away when not being used and also be able to adjust the height down to say sofa level for example.
I had found the perfect one, the silver cross buffet, and better still they have a sale on bringing it down to £100 which is the price point I am looking for. However, just went to order and they don't deliver to Northern Ireland which I'm fuming about, and I can't get it anywhere else.
So has anyone used/can recommend any other newborn high chairs?

Thanks in advance

The maxi Cosi Nesta?

lavenderdilly · 24/07/2023 22:41

Omg just seen the price of the Nesta! Mental.

We have actually got the tripp trapp, it does take up a bit of space but we use it so frequently I'm not sure I'd ever fold it away even if I could.

I've seen a few people recommend the cosatto noodle x

We have the Tutti Bambini Nova, it’s a little above your price point at 150 but with cash back apps and new customer discount codes it shouldn’t be too much above 100! It’s great :)

We just put the car seat or a bouncer on the kitchen table?

Hotgoose · 25/07/2023 06:29

Could the mama and papas bug chair work for you?

Oldermum84 · 25/07/2023 06:46

We used the cosatto noodle 0+ and would recommend.

Medicinalfriedchicken · 25/07/2023 06:50

Another recommendation for Cosatto Noodle 0+, which does everything you're after. Loved ours!

Why wouldn't a moses basket on a stand work? Like a car seat, I'm not sure you'd want a newborn in something where they aren't lying flat for extended periods of time. They are much cheaper than a highchair, and can be picked up second hand in mint condition for £5/10, with an extra £10 for a new mattress.
Also be aware that not all babies will tolerate being put down anywhere. I wouldn't want to spend £££s until you know what kind you've got. DD1 would go from content and alseep to screaming and bright purple within seconds if not in physical contact with one of us for more than 10 seconds for the first 3 months of her life. I used a sling where possible, but it was a heatwave and most of the time the sling was too hot for both of us. At 3 months we managed to get her to lie in a baby swing for short stints (15 mins or so - I remember how luxurious that time felt! 🙈😂), provided it was on the maximum speed setting! For balance, I should add DD2 was happy in her bouncer from day 1 provided she could see someone (or even just the cat) - I painted our new extension and fitted the kitchen with her happily watching me from that bouncer. Hopefully you get one of these babies!

Another vote for cosatto noodle. We love ours. It's currently being used by our 2nd child and is still in excellent condition.

That's what usually happens isn't it?

For the time frame you'd put a baby in a high chair type thing a car seat would be fine? They can be in them for 2 hours at a time?! Depending on size of dog moses baskets aren't safe as they can knock them over/jump up on them.

Maraudingmarauders · 25/07/2023 08:03

Have you looked second hand on facebook marketplace? We've gone for the tutti bambini nova and managed to get a really great condition one for an excellent price.

It sounds like this will be the main place the baby is put in the house during the day as she's wanting to use it in various rooms, so it could be much longer than 2 hours if the baby is napping in it.
If a dog can knock over a moses basket, it can knock over a highchair too. If the dog is that high spirited, it should not be in the same room as the baby at all.

SErunner · 25/07/2023 08:15

@SkankingWombat you clearly haven't dealt with the logistics of a dog and a baby so perhaps leave the discussion to those who have.

SErunner · 25/07/2023 08:21

And if you think you're going to put a baby down for more than 2 hours at a time I'd question if you have experience in this area as well?!

ALF87 · 25/07/2023 08:55

Thanks for all the replies! Going to look at the Tutti Nova and the maxi Cosi Minla, which popped up when I was searching for the Maxi Cosi Nesta. I think it's probably the one I will go for as it looks to have everything I want.

For those with a Cosatto noodle, it had been my original choice but I had seen a few bad reviews in terms of seating position when actually weaning (seat too far back and low in comparison to the table), so that put me off, but there seem to be a couple here saying it's great, so would that not be your experience with it?

I can put the bouncer on top of the table but it's a small table and a baby bjorn bouncer so it takes up a lot of the table, which is fine when the table is not in use, this will just give me another option and means I don't need to move the bouncer into the kitchen with me.

Regarding the dogs, they aren't high spirited at all, very calm and well versed in how to act around kids. It's more that there are two of them, compared to just the one when I had my now 4 year old, plus said 4 year old running about (will be a lot going on) and unless I had 100% attention on the baby I wouldn't have the baby on a lower level without me while I made dinner for example, as no matter how good your dog is accidents happen.

Also, no the baby won't be strapped into a highchair for the entire day, it's just when I need to do something. Probably the main use will be when we sit at the table for dinner as a family, as the baby can be at the same level as us.

We’ve had the Minla since newborn days. It’s a great piece of kit. My only complaint is it takes up a fair amount of floor space and you couldn’t really move it around with ease. But if it’s just for one room I’d recommend. Was a fab high chair for weaning and, because it’s more like a seat, DS was happy in it until 2.5ish at the table.

ALF87 · 25/07/2023 10:03

Thanks Viva, good to know you like it!

@ALF87 I can't help with recommendations as we have the silver cross. However I just wanted to say having the high chair with dogs and when I was eating was an absolute life saver and so much safer than putting a car seat on a table.

ALF87 · 25/07/2023 10:17

@bumphope2020 Thanks, it's good to hear from someone who understands why i'm asking what i'm asking.

Bit grouchy this morning?

bettynutkins · 25/07/2023 12:32

Just seen your update on the noodle, my baby is currently sat in it having lunch whilst I type this. It's not lent back at all, she is sat lovely in it. We have a normal height table and her highchair is currently positioned higher so the tray over the table (if that makes sense). Definitely not too low at all.

Oldermum84 · 25/07/2023 22:03

I've not found any problem with the seating position of the noodle.

Bemyclementine · 25/07/2023 22:06

I had a Joie but can't for the life of me remember the name. It was a 360 one though so you could swivel it around so the baby could see you. It lasted from newborn til no longer needing a highchair. Lays back really well.
