Breastfed baby won't accept bottles

Hi all,
First time mum here, looking for your advice as I'm at a lost. So my DD is 9 weeks and is breastfed but has had a nightly bottle of either formula or breast milk pretty much since week one, we were also gradually phasing in more bottles as I currently have a bad reoccurring case of mastitis. Bottles has worked well as given DH chance to feed her which he has loved and never affected the latch. She had her first vaccine last week and was poorly after, she pretty much lost her appetite was even refusing breastfeeds. Her appetite has come back but now she won't accept a bottle at all. From DH or me, she screams the house down if we try. I don't understand the sudden change, can anyone offer suggestions?
Thanks

When my son did this, I switched to MAM teats and that did the trick. I know others who have also experienced the same and switched to MAM. I hope it is as something as simple as that.

It’s very common for babies to prefer to breastfeed. It’s worth trying the MAM teat but even that might not help. Incidentally, your mastitis won’t be helped by giving bottles. Your breasts will continue to make milk and not feeding from the breast will cause them to fill up and become engorged. This can cause mastitis.

I think you have to be patient with her. She is so tiny. You don't want to mess around with the breastfeeding to the point she won't do it, because that will no doubt trigger more mastitis, or more problems. Then you might need to stop breastfeeding.

Our baby (7months) is breast fed too and DH has always given bottle once a day. Until recently she has just completely refused it and screams too. Not sure why. Not sure what to suggest for you but I feel for your situation!

Hi, I had the same thing at around the same age. My daughter had a tongue tie which I was told about when she was born but everyone said not to worry because her latch looked ok and she was putting on weight. After a long battle I gave up and went private, turns out she was 75% tied and her latch was so shallow that she was taking too much air and was causing all sorts of issues. I had mastitis twice and ended up in hospital on 1 occasion. Mastitis isn’t that common and usually means there’s something going on with babies latch or tongue tie etc. which means they are unable to fully empty the breast and have to work very hard.
My daughter is now 5 months and still refuses the bottle, we had her tongue tie cut, her latch is now much better and so are all her other symptoms: reflux, excess wind etc. I have tried multiple bottles: mam, tommee tippee, nanobebe, Lansinoh and I have to size up on teats. I have to be honest nothing has made much difference. We are now on a sippy cup and she sort of chews that and swallows what comes out but it’s very messy and she doesn’t get enough milk from it for a feed. I am so frustrated that her tongue tie wasn’t caught earlier because I am sure this is one of the factors that played a part in all our problems, I would recommend having her checked by a specialist- not all midwife’s and health visitors know enough about it. If you live near London there is a centre called the tongue tie centre in Balham- they do private and a donation clinic where you just pay what you can afford and they are so helpful!
Sorry that I can’t offer more advice about the bottle thing but if you are going to have to breastfeed atleast you might be able to do it without mastitis which is horrible!
I persist everyday with the bottle and just offer one so she continues to feel it in her mouth with no pressure and I have started to wean early.
Good luck x
