Something making DS incredibly irritable

DS is 20m. He has always been pretty stroppy but also equally affectionate and loveable. A month ago we decided to night wean (from a bottle of milk, not breastfeeding) and it took 2/3 days but now he generally sleeps 7-6 with a 2h nap during the day. Finally feel like we all get a bit of rest and have a rough routine in place.

For some reason for the last 3ish weeks my DS has been sooo much more irritable, stroppy, violent (tries to hit his brother and our pets constantly) and will have huge tantrums and throw himself back and go bright red with rage. He is also eating less than before! it was our hope that less milk = more food.

Before anyone says teething, he already has all his teeth! so its not that.
The only other thing I can think is that he is peeing and drinking more, he will down a bottle of water if given that now.

Any thoughts or ideas?

If he's drinking a lot then ask GP to check for diabetes

What's communication like? Could it be typical toddler tantrums? Drinking more due to weather?

Peeing and drinking more are telltale signs for Type 1 Diabetes, alongside increased irritability. Our DS was diagnosed at 2. I'd get him to the GP for a blood sugar/ketone check asap - it's not something you want to mess around with. Sorry, OP.

@Diddykong Did cross my mind but I mean, he doesnt seem unwell and he has tons and tons of energy.

@decaffonlypls Communication has improved massively lately, he can string 2/3 words now and generally tell us what he needs most of the time although he gets really frustrated when we dont understand him.

I dont’t know if its toddler tantrums, hes always had them but this is like next level. Its almost as if he’s not napped and has been awake for 12 hours level grumpiness - except he hasn’t.

This was the first thing I thought too.

@octoberfarm I didn’t know irritableness was a symptom, Thank you. I hope your DS is well now.
