Will I be reported to social services

DD was playing in lounge this morning. Went in to get her and found a tablet on the floor, picked it up as no one in the household takes medications, googled the markings and it was a medication neither myself or partner have ever taken.

Thought nothing of it and then a few hours later daughter started screaming with abdo pains. Took her to A&E and explained what had happened, that I was sure she hadn't taken medication but couldn't be definite.

No idea where the tablet had come from but we are in the process of moving house so could be from people viewing house, people conveyencing, family, the loft, boxes we got off Facebook, anywhere.

DD is fine thank god, but now I'm worried we will be reported to SS.

I'm on Scotland so may be different if you aren't.
Here your names person is informed of every A and E visit.
Under p1 age that's health visitor once at school headteacher
It's most likely they may have a chat

I had to go to A&E with my older child a few times and not once have we ever been reported to social services so don't stress too much. You did the right thing having her checked and that's the main thing.

It’s possible a message will be sent to children’s social care , but is almost certain to just involve a telephone call and then once they’ve confirmed it was just a one off accident - the matter will be closed.

I would say it is likely that it will be flagged to the Hospital Social Worker who may call you to check on things but doubt it would progress further. When DS took a fall outside in the garden and cut his chin the Hospital Social Worker rang me on the phone a few days later and said it was standard procedure

TryAgainAnotherDay · 22/07/2023 20:47

I'm going to be worried now all week. I just think what of they don't believe me, even I think it's odd that there was a random tablet in my house.

If they come to visit, they will see a cared for child in a normal home. More likely that it will be logged and only actioned if there are more reports. No need to worry!

I had to take LO to A&E at 11mo following a ludicrous accident. The staff were asking me to repeat the story because the action against injury was odd, as if I'd come up with something feeble (think as if I'd said 'walked into a door').
Anyway, to get to the point - I am happy for them to have that suspicion. They don't know me and if that approach flags up a vulnerable child who is truly in a dangerous situation then I will happily be grilled and judged.

Named persons don't exist. The legislation was shelved a couple of years ago.

However the health visitor is informed of A&E visits as is the GP

School is not informed.

In England the HV/school nurse is informed of A&E visits.

we had two A&E visits within a week for accidental injuries of DD age 3 & had a doorstep visit from a HV as a result. She saw we were a normal family & that was it.

TryAgainAnotherDay · 22/07/2023 21:33

Well this should be fun, the A&E we attended was at my dad's so different county to where we live. In the process of moving house into a family members for a few weeks which is also in a different county. After a few weeks we will then be moving back to our original county but in a different town and a different GP practice. Should I inform someone of all this on Monday or just leave it??

Oh just realised it was a health visitor who phoned me about the fall outside not a hospital social worker!
I'd try not to worry, it sounds plausible since youve just moved, just don't change your story as that Will seem suspicious

NerrSnerr · 23/07/2023 11:04

How old is she and what was the medication?

I wouldn't worry about letting them know about moving. I assume you'll be staying registered with your original GP practice until you're in your permanent home? If so they'll just call you if they need to.

They might be concerned if the medication was something like a benzo or other controlled drug, but they may just give a call anyway to check all's ok.

NerrSnerr · 23/07/2023 11:04

I did get a call once after an a&e visit when my child fell off the sofa on his head. It was the health visitor and it was fine. No accusations, just checking all is ok

gghfcvufcv · 23/07/2023 11:07

If you are known to children's services ie your child has an open case or a social worker already - then they may speak to you about it. If you have no prior involvement with social workers it would be very unusual for them to be in touch with tit about this.
The a&e report will state it was an accident and you also acted appropriately by taking her to hospital.
It was an accident - try not to fret beyond your child's health.

continentallentil · 23/07/2023 11:19

Maybe but it’s nothing to worry about

Was a naproxen, which neither me or my partner have ever taken

So it's been over a week and I've heard nothing from anyone, take it they don't think I'm a negligent parent.

Did it happen at your house? Why did you go to A & E in a different county?

TryAgainAnotherDay · 04/08/2023 20:49

I was on my way to see my dad in the neighbouring county when she started to cry with the stomach pains, so took her to the nearest A&E
