Tip it down the toilet, spray with anti-bac spray, then wipe till clean.

Nemoandthefishes · 25/02/2008 21:53

we empty into toilet swill with water and little soap which I chuck down the loo then wipe with tissue. then flush loo

JackieNo · 25/02/2008 21:53

it is vile! Tip the contents down the loo, mop/wipe with toilet paper spray with anti bac and wipe with more toilet paper.

Encourage child to use toilet as soon as possible!

FrannyandZooey · 25/02/2008 21:53

I used to tip down toilet then rinse in bath, dry with toilet paper

colditz · 25/02/2008 21:54

Into toilet, wipe with tissue, spray with antibac, wipe again!

PotPourri · 25/02/2008 21:54

Like nemo, empty down bog, swill with water, that also goes down bog, spray with vinegar (antibacterial) spray, wipe with tissue and flush all away.

FrannyandZooey · 25/02/2008 21:54

you don't have to use anti bac
soap and water are fine
I bet you don't spray your bottoms with anti bac after you have done a poo

(oh god perhaps you DO)

snice · 25/02/2008 21:55

Tip upside down over loo so contents fall out
Hold in toilet whilst you flush once or more times if necessary so that flush goes with force into the potty
Wipe out with loo paper and flush
Clean with antibacterial spray and paper

RedJools · 25/02/2008 21:55

I tip it down the toilet and hold it in the flush, wipe with baby wipe. Used to use spray on it, then noticed dd had red legs where she had been in contact , so stopped

bookwormmum · 25/02/2008 21:59

No idea - empty of contents, rinse and drain I guess.

Dd refused to sit on her potty so I got her the baby seat to go on the toilet and ditched the potty into the charity shop.

JackieNo · 25/02/2008 22:03

Know what you mean about the anti bac, Franny, it's just that it's there (well, was, not using potties any more, hurray), and convenient, just spray and go, iyswim. Whereas soap and rinsing with water is more faff for me.

BrownSuga · 25/02/2008 22:04

I use those dettol wipes to wipe it all clean, and flush it.

yelnats · 25/02/2008 22:05

empty contents down the loo then spray with anti bac (if i remembered)wipe with loo roll then run under the shower and of course rinse the shower base. Never bothered to dry it tbh.

Thanks all - for some reason i feel far more squeamish about potty contents than nappy contents and I had visions of being covered in the damn stuff while trying to deal with it all!

anti bac is evil, though, especially if it's got triclosan in

you don't really want it in contact with your child's skin IMO

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 26/02/2008 19:29

Do you definitely need a potty or can you just use one of those seat things that fits on the loo when you're at home?

padboz · 26/02/2008 19:39

hijack - whats bad about anti bac???!!!

McDreamy · 26/02/2008 19:41

There is no point using anti bac unless you have cleaned it first. Soap and water is sufficient but if you are going to use anti bac use it afterwards and allow it to dry.

warthog · 26/02/2008 19:43

f&z is voice of reason.

FrannyandZooey · 26/02/2008 19:56

concerns over anti bac

some info on Triclosan

more of the same

I find that a potty with a removable bowl is much easier than the cheap all in one potties. Just the shape of them seems they're not designed to tip into a toilet! Maybe it's just cause I'm American and we (as far as I knew, being the oldest of 7 children!) never had these "silly" all-in-one pots! It was always a potty chair with a bowl that slid in & out and usually had a pour spout which made it loads easier to pour, IMHO. I found a Safety 1st potty which has a bowl that slides out, though it's rather a huge bulky object, but lots better than the others, I think!

Tho maybe no one else has problems with potties! lol

shoptilidrop · 28/02/2008 18:40

im lazy, i just tip down the loo, swish it about with some water and tip it out too. If its a poo i do the same and then anti bac it.
i dont anti bac the toilet everytime ive sat on it, so why would i do it to the pot? And like the op said its bad chemical wise. DD doesnt play with the pot or anything so we dont have any hands or toys in it so i cant see how bad it can be.

alysonpeaches · 28/02/2008 19:46

If your little one has eczema and sensitive skin, just use water, a swish of soap and any sticky bits should be wiped with paper and washed with soap and water.

If its just wee, empty and rinse.

I would only use an antibac if the child had a nasty attack of diarrhoea anyway. We use far too much of this sort of thing.
