Does anyone take a 3 year old to swimming lessons with a baby in tow? Debating whether this is going to be a nightmare by myself and I should change his lesson to a wkend or whether this is do able with a baby in a carrier? Any experiences welcome 😂

To clarify child will have lessons in pool with the teacher and I will be poolside but will need to obviously get them undressed/dressed

You’re not in the pool with the 3yo? How old is the baby?

I don't understand. If you're not in the pool why would it matter?

Seen lots of babies in car seats and pushchairs at child swimming lessons. Just check whats allowed.

The time of lessons helps or hinders. I’ve done it but had to be super organised for both little ones and definitely remain calm to help them!

Easier if the baby is still immobile.
depends if pushchairs are allowed on deck our center had a play pen where you could pop the babies in for those few moments when you needed both hands.

I did this. It was fine.
Baby was on my knee during lessons, then in her buggy or car seat whilst I got the 3 year old dressed. There were also playpens in the changing rooms.

When the baby was a bit bigger, me and both my dc, and a friend and her (1) dc would all have a fun swim before the bigger kids' swimming lesson. My friend's dad came with us to make up adult numbers (1:1).

Take the buggy to the changing room or the car seat. Strap baby in there while you get three year old ready.

I did for a good few months, it was fine, a little stressed at times as my then 3 year old is quite high maintenance, probable ADHD.

Baby went in sling as that was easier, but totally fine. If it helps, get older child dressed for swimming at home and put clothes on over the top, and use a hooded towel for after

I did it with twins. Only difference to dc friends was we didn't go to the local pool due to access issues. It was easy at the one we chose to wheel pushchair in and use a family changing area.

I do. 3 year old in the pool and the baby sat in the pushchair poolside with me. She’s usually pretty content to just sit and watch but I was careful to pick a lesson that fit in well with her routine time wise so I knew she wouldn’t be hungry or tired and grumpy at the time of the lesson. Easier said than done I know but I was lucky to find one.

Thanks all some good tips. Good to hear it is manageable. Baby not here yet but thinking ahead. Thanks again x

Yes it's fine, I did it from newborn as didn't want to stop eldests swimming lessons. It's much harder now they're 4.5 and 18months to be honest as youngest no longer wants to sit and watch nicely!

tulipsunday · 19/07/2023 19:16

I can imagine that @LG93 😂

It took me far too long to work out the swimming lessons were for the 3 year old not the baby Blush
