Reusable nappies - struggling over night

We have recently started using cloth nappies and generally getting on really well and I’m glad we made the jump.

However DS is a big wetter. 7oz every 3 hours through the day so obviously has regular changes through the day, generally we have no leaks changing before feeds and not requiring any boosters just folding to the front or if using an all-in-one I do boost but it lasts well and no accidents. At night he sleeps 10pm through until 5 / 6 am. No matter how hard I try, with the bamboozle, peanut wrap plus boosting, he wakes soaked in the morning through to PJs and sleepsack. This doesn’t happen in a disposable so I just don’t know why the reusable can’t manage.

I really don’t want to have to use disposables at all, but I don’t want him waking and I definitely don’t want him cold - obviously it’s summer now but come winter in a old house being wet through will be chilly.

Any tips and tricks from people who have been through it and mastered the cloth nappy game very appreciated and welcome

How old is DS?
Do the Peenuts still come in various sizes? I used to use a size 1 little lamb bamboo with a size 2 over it, and then the wrap, with a booster folded in half at the front inside the size 1, when DS was at that 6 month old heavy wetter stage. Strangely once he was properly in size 2s, I no longer had to double nappy.

It's been a couple of years but we used little lamb bamboo 2 parts with the motherease airflow wrap with little lamb triple bamboo booster. I think I put the booster between the wrap and nappy made it better.

also vest extender and loose babygrow or pjs, stop any pressure spots on the nappy creating leaks.

highly recommend contacting the nappy lady. Always found her advice spot on.

How old is your baby?
Once mine was about 5-6 months we went from 1 stay dry booster at night with Bumble to needing that plus Bumble's built in booster and 2 6-layer hemp ones. Once you've checked fit, wrap and clothes being loose enough it's really just about adding enough layers for big wee volumes.
I'd recommend Easy Peasy hemp boosters as they're thin but so absorbent.
Do The Nappy Lady troubleshooting questionnaire, they are absolute cloth nappy goddesses who know everything!

We use little lamb with 2 boosters (whatever I can find) and a fleece liner inside, and then 2 hemp boosters between the nappy and the wrap. Think the most important thing though is the wrap - we use motherease airflow and rarely any issues. Check out the nappy lady as she always has good recommendations - have heard good things about baby beehinds night nappy.

Yep that’s what we used, and DS had a massive bladder.

Moved onto bamboo Sandy’s when he was about 9 months old, as they fit better. Again with the same little lamb triple booster.

He’s 3 months but he’s big (tall) so in size two, size one is just too low down his middle.

thanks for the tips I’ll try the folded booster and boost between the bamboozle and peanut tonight. I’ve also completed the questionnaire on the nappy lady website.

fingers crossed tonight goes better 🙏

The Nappy Lady team should be able to sort it, but if everything is sodden in the morning, I would guess you need more boosting (or a different night nappy, there are ones that have more absorbency than the bamboozles). We've used bamboozles with both ours, but at peak night wetting, they had three boosters – the one it came with poppered inside, then two more in between nappy and wrap (usually a triple bamboo and a hemp, but a bit variable). If you need to boost heavily, you may then need a more generous wrap, particularly as baby grows – peenut wraps are fairly trim fitting.

We bought cheap towelling face cloths, folded them into thirds and put them between the nappy and the liner!

Worked a treat.

We used wool soakers at night. A bit of a faf to lanolise but they don’t leak.

MaybeOneAndDone · 18/07/2023 22:50

We used the close pop-in reusable nappies with a night time booster.

I like the little lamb bamboo triples for boosting, folded in half and tucked in the front for boys. My preference though is terries. Love them and you can boost with whatever you want. I like a hemp booster for the night nappy.

I also have a couple of Bellz bums night nappies, they are excellent too
