Changing bag - what style to go for?

Not sure if this should be in pregnancy or parenting, so will post in both.

I'm torn between getting a backpack style changing bag and the other flatter kind that go over the pram handles.

What have people found most useful? My thinking is backpack may be best so if we are out without the pram and just the carrier, it'll be more convenient but others have mentioned they like the other flatter style.

Does anyone have a tried and tested preferences/tips please and reasoning as to why?

TIA

I prefer the backpack kind. We have the Skip Hop Forma which you can still clip to the handle of the pram if you want, but I don’t like having things swinging around there so tend to shove it in the basket. I love it, and recently flew with the baby and had it as my main hand luggage (separate bag with formula in, and that was it). I do use interior pouches/zip bags to make it easier to find things though. I also think they’re more future-proof, for when you have a toddler and maybe won’t have the pram with you.

I’ve recently bought a mini Nordace rucksack which takes a change mat, nappies, wipes, change of clothes and a bottle or two. It wouldn’t do for a whole day but if we’re just popping to a cafe or something then I like not needing to take the whole bulky bag.

Backpack that goes over pram handles eg storksak.

I had a shoulder bag and quickly realised it’s bloody irritating

Backpack that you clip onto pram. Best of both worlds. I found our shoulder changing bag annoying to wear when baby wasn't in the pram, so when I was using carrier or just carrying her in my arms in to places. Backpack is much more versatile and most have clips so you can clip them onto pram.

We have the Bambino Mio backpack, which I really like.

Good quality normal backpack from an outdoor shop. I know it's not as fun, but you want something designed to be comfortable when you're already carrying someone increasingly heavy on your front (carriers are much more convenient than buggies imho), something practicable, and waterproof.

There are plenty of other things you'll need where the fun, baby-themed option is a good option :-) But a bag's a bag.

Back pack definitely. Easier to carry and since you won't have it hanging on the buggy there's no risk of it falling over once you take the toddler out.

Back packs have way more pockets and a bit more space too.

You don't need to buy a bag designed specifically for changing. It really isn't necessary. I bought a practical backpack, that I liked the look of too. It is by a brand called lefrik. One day, when I no longer need a nappy bag, I will be happy to use the backpack for carrying other child related things! I found changing bags overpriced.

Backpack all the way!

Backpack definitely to start with. I was given a Babymel one as a gift and it was perfectly fine. But once we got past the baby stage, i got the Storksak Stroller Organiser and it has been brilliant for short local journeys. Big enough to fit in one change of clothes, couple of nappies, wipes, sippy cup and a snack. It's been perfect for 1yr + and i mostly just use that and my handbag now for day to day use.

Backpack

I personally hate backpacks and got a shoulder bag. SIL is the complete opposite and got a backpack.

Buy a bag that will fit your preferences.

It's personal taste.
I don't really like backpacks, other than if I'm off on a hike carrying a tent etc (and I still don't really like them then.
Changing bag far more comfortable with easy access over one shoulder. Also much easier to switch between me and dh, and easy to sling on the pram too.
