Going to Spain with baby who will be 11 months, has anyone got any tips for me ? From airport onwards ?
Worrying a little about the plane to be honest , she's a very vocal baby !!

Bring so many snacks 🤣

sweatybettii · 16/07/2023 19:55

Oh yes I plan on stocking up on the snacks! Only thing that keeps her quiet lol

Snack books, things to fiddle with. Plenty of water as it's hot. Accept offers of help if a gullible middle aged lady is willing to bounce on knee/walk up and down plane, saved my bacon so many times!

Spare clothes for you and baby. Variety of small toys brought out one at a time.

To be honest though, from my experience, my top tip would be to give abroad holidays a miss until they are 5

The best bit of advice I'd give myself a few years back on my first holiday abroad with a baby is that it's not a "holiday" as I previously understood them to be 😂 it's not a lovely relaxing break. You still have to mind the baby and think about naps and meals etc.. once I reframed my expectation and thought of it as a nice change of scenery it went a lot better.

I would add get a new toy for the journey there and a different new toy for the journey back
a bag of chocolate brioche to snack on for you and baby (get one in Spain for the return journey especially)
download a variety of cartoons on to your phone

Thank you all really helpful.
Last time I took a baby abroad was 8 years ago, so I have definitely forgot everything !

I've got Milton tablets to sterilise, I can use bottled water can't I ?

Yes, bottled water is fine to dissolve Milton tablets in. Remember you can take ready made formula through security at the airport too.
I would probably bring a baby carrier and a pushchair.
Also, one thing I do is wrap up old toys that they haven't used for a long time. They love unwrapping them, and when they were babies they spent ages playing with the wrapping paper.
Also, I took a plastic plate/bowl/cutlery as not all restaurants will have them.
I went on holidays when mine were as little as 4 months and absolutely loved every single one!

Routines are out the window while you're away. Live in the moment!

Ahh that's good, I'm planning on buying one of those huge round bottles of water and chopping the top off, then using that to sterilise, that'll be okay won't it ??

Good shout on the plastic bowls too.

Well dd usually goes to bed around 6.30 so that definitely won't be happening, looks like sleeping will be in the stroller so we can have an evening meal and a walk around.

Can't you just use the sink? I bought some cleaning Wipes and a sponge with me and scrubbed the sink and sterilised the bottles in there.
Yes, we gave our kids afternoon naps which meant they could stay up later during the evening meal.

OMGitsnotgood · 17/07/2023 20:30

whereas we kept them on UK times, worked well for us.

Re plane: something to suck on takeoff and landing - bottle or dummy if they have them, breast if you're still feeding

ShadowPuppets · 17/07/2023 20:31

Yes on sticking to UK times. Meant we got a bit of a lie in, later nap and then dinner out.

Recently took a 13 month away...

3 hour commute to nearby airport hotel
3:30am wakeup to get to the airport
3 hour flight
1 hour travel to accommodation
Straight to a wedding

It was easy, to be honest. As much as I was apprehensive it was nothing like I imagined and went so well.
