Child's first shoes

My first child started walking in winter so we left it 8 weeks before buying him shoes as I'd read that barefoot is beneficial for them and as it was winter he was only walking indoors.

My 2nd child is now walking 2.5 weeks. The weather with me is awful at the minute so I would leave her as she is but we are going away next weekend for a few days. Therefore there is hope that we'll be out for the day to play parks etc.

Do I buy her soft shoes just to keep her dry or get her proper first walker shoes? I know it takes them time to adjust, my son hated wearing shoes so I have to buy them tomorrow.

Thank you for any advice.

Pre-walkers are meant to be soft and flexible. I would take your LO to a shoe shop to get properly measured and fitted.

I know what you mean about making sure they are not scrunching their toes whilst they walk before getting shoes. My LO was a lockdown baby and spent most of his time barefoot or in wellies whilst outside before we could get him properly measured and fitted. I brought a brand of wellies that is meant to be the best barefoot equivalent

We got a pair of shoes from Inchblue and it's flexible and soft and is still my 2 year old's go to shoes (we bought the next size up since she loves it so much). It was a great first pair of shoes at about 14/15 months when she first started walking and we were out and about a lot.

Get something really soft. If you can measure her foot you can order off Amazon for next day - Inch Blue or Dotty Fish, or something similar.
