Late hunger, not latching, suffocation?

My baby won't latch if he's gone to the crying stage of hunger . Sometime I can catch him and get to suck.

I was looking after my toddler and baby was crying and I tried to get to latch and put nipple in mouth and kept trying. The sound of crying was blocked but he didn't suck. He went red in face.

Now think I could have been suffocating him by doing that?

You have to put your index and middle finger held together above your nipple and push your breast in so baby can suckle and still breathe . I had this with one baby. So put baby in, push in breast. They should be away then.

Thanks, I think i know what you mean but his nose wasn't blocked, just his mouth but he was crying so breathing through his mouth?? Ugh he's been ok and smiling afterwards but it's a scary thought, he's almost 12 weeks.

He will be breathing through his nose so you won’t be suffocating him. My DS does this too, when I don’t feed in time and he gets into a red faced state he’s very hard to get him latched on. I find if I offer my clean finger to suck on to calm him down first then when he’s calm offer the breast. If he’s screaming and I offer the breast he just seems to get more angry and can’t latch on.
