Hi all,

I'm fairly sure my baby has responded to name in the past but recently just blanks me. He's 6.5 mo ths and He's very into everything and is constantly looking at something or trying to get to something to grab or play with so I'm not sure if it's that or if it's something I should raise? Any experience of this?

He also is not get babbling like ba ba da da etc he makes a lot of noise and shouts vowel sounds all day and the occasional consonant sound.

He has good eye contact and is smiley and giggly and met all his physical milestones to date on time has been rolling both ways since before 5 months, can sit unassisted etc

His hearing is fine because he will look if I sing to him or make noises or say peeekaaaas boo but just doesn't turn to his name.

Anyone give advice or share their experiences?

Thank you!!

They all do things in their own time. He sounds advanced to me. I wouldn't worry at all about not babbling. 6.5 months is still little. Mine is the same age, not responding to name or babbling and only rolling one way. He only wants to blow raspberries!

Thank you v much for your reply! That's good to hear, we had a bit of a rough start with a scary hospital stay so I think I'm very anxious now! Love the blowing raspberry's ❤️❤️

My daughter is near enough crawling at 6.5 months but doesn’t respond to her name I duno wether I should be worried, she does it sometimes but I think she ignores me

Cluelessfirstimer · 31/07/2023 19:48

My 14 month old didn't sit up until he was 10 months, didn't babble until about 9 months. He crawled at 5 months old though! And stood up and was cruising at 7 months!

Sometimes when they are learning new skills they concentrate on 1. The others Sometimes take a back seat (HV told me this at his 1 year review which was at 8 months)

Always message the HV if you are worried but sounds normal to me

Noneof mine responded to their name at that age. They couldn't be bothered as they were interested in everything else!

Babies also do things in different orders. My eldest was as vocal as anything. Babbling away like mad at that age. But no interest in moving. She was a totally stationary blob till nearly a year. Didn't crawl, couldn't get herself to sitting.... but a shocking vocabulary by oneyear. She caught up on all the motor stuff later. My younger two difnt babble at that age, but were making good progress on motor. It makes no difference in the long run what order they do it in.

Sounds like he’s getting on very well, try to enjoy him. If your worrying is a problem maybe tak to the health visitor, about your anxiety as well as his development. It’s what they’re there for

@andreae23 Hi. May I ask how did it go on for your child?

@yas1362 my little boy is 2years 9 months now, I don’t even remember writing this or this being one of my many worries!!! I worried about EVERYTHING. Anyway he is doing fine, developmentally completely normal and his daycare always comment on how good he is with speech and social/emotional relationships so there was nothing to worry about here just a baby doing it in their own time. I have another baby and feel the other comments on here so much more now - going to relax and enjoy him as my anxiety took some of the joy the first time around!
