7 month bf every 2-2.5 hour

anyone experiencing similar? She’s fine at night can go 5 or so hours. In the day she feeds every 2-2.5 hour. I’m sure some of its fit comfort. Any tips on trying to get feeds further apart? She’s EBF and on two meals a day too! (She’s always been a 9th centile baby so small)

Sorry to be blunt here, but I i had to read your post twice to try to work out what the issue is.

She's sleeping pretty well at night for a bf baby of that age, and taking in lots of milk during the day. None of this sounds unusual or excessive to me I'm afraid. That's a weird age around 6-8m where it feels like all you do is feed them, as you introduce meals but they are still taking in as much milk. It'll eventually spread out a bit, but even then lots of children will have breakfast at 8, a snack at 10, lunch at 12, a snack at 3, dinner at 5 etc, so are still eating every 2-3 hours 😂

My bf baby was feeding hourly at night at that stage, and maybe 1-3 hourly during the day. We didn't get 5hr stretches at night until nearly 2!

No problem about being blunt.

To be honest I was after someone to say either (a) dc totally should be feeding less by now and try X Y and Z, or (b) someone to say it’s completely normal feeding that much still.

So you said the latter which is fine.

I just feel when I’m out I’m always that mum still feeding baby all the time so I wondered if anything was amiss! I’m actually fine with feeding this much myself!

Thank you for replying.

It can be really common. DD fee every 2-3 hours all day and all night. It seemed to be consistent until she decided to stop breastfeeding at 12 months. A lot of info online will tell you they should go longer at that age but it's very baby dependent.
I know it's frustrating but definitely nothing to worry about.

Thank you for replying. i am ok with it myself, it’s more about me feeling confident when I get the “oh your baby feeds a lot” when I’m out. Which sometimes I do. I know it doesnt matter what others say but I am ashamed to say that it does help me if I’m confident that I know that what me and Dc are doing is in the realms of normal still. Your message is helpful.

I know how that feels and it's tough. Definitely makes you feel like you're somehow failing.
There's a brilliant IBCLC I follow on Instagram: Lucy Webber feeding support and she often posts about people commenting on babies feeding. She's definitely worth a follow.
But, as hard as it is, just try and ignore them. You're feeding your baby as much as they want/need. I used to use the magic of the boob got everything. Tired: boob them. Crying: boob them. No idea what's wrong with them: boob them 🤣

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/07/2023 15:59

This sounds normal and nothing to worry about 🙂 my DS was definitely feeding that much at that age, and DD 6 months probably similar (I don’t track at all)

It may be that your breasts have a lower storage capacity (not related to the size of your boobs) so baby needs to eat more frequently. Or maybe baby is a less efficient feeder. No way of knowing but might help to think about. But really this is fine, keep doing what you’re doing. I found with my DS he really knew what he needed and regulated himself fine as he got older, I fed him till 20 months

Sounds totally normal to me. I've bf 3dc - none of them really reduced their bf until around 1yr and even then it was gradual. Bf should still be the main source of calories until a year.

My youngest is 2y4m and would still feed every 2hrs during the day if given access - mine just like boob

Ah thank you! Yes exactly it’s just about me being more confident! I will check out Lucy Webber this afternoon! Your examples of when you boob them definitly sounds like me and Dc 🤣🤣 @kernowpicklepie

Thank you really helpful to hear! My Dc is honestly teeny (always has been she’s perfectly fine) so I do think she has a small tummy as well. @BuffaloCauliflower we will keep going. 💪🏽

That might be why. My DS went from 9th centile weight at birth, to 75th centile by 9 months, so I think he was just carb loading 😂

hi OP
dont think you need to worry
my 7.5m old feeds more than that some days and is on solids too I just feed on demand lol
he’s a 50th centile baby. I wouldn’t worry at all.
shes sleeping well which is amazing. Most nights my LO is waking 2-3 hours to feed and with teething is feeding so much more..

All the comments here have been helpful as I don’t really know any bf mums anymore!

To be transparent my initial post said something like Dc can do
5 hours sleeping (she can - often her first stint of the night like 7.30-12.30) then after we head into every 2 hours really. I’m fine with it (vast improvement from every 45 mins as we had in her first 5 months of life😃) it was more just me wanting to sense check against other bF mums to make sure we weren’t doing something wild 🤣 thanks again
