Should I change formula?

My baby is 7 weeks old and is on cow and gate. She is suffering with her stomach. She constantly trumps and it smells horrendous and I mean horrendous and sometimes struggles to poo. She is very unsettled some days and has a lot of wind which I manage to get up but still seems unsettled. On bad days she cries every time she is put down and arches her whole body and her stomach goes rock hard. I give her gripe water which works sometimes but not all the time. She could be asleep in my arms then randomly wake up screaming in pain. Just looking for advice as this never happened with my first born and I’m struggling a lot during the evenings trying to put my toddler in bed/ make dinner etc with a screaming newborn. Should I change her milk? We have the drs next week for her checks so can ask then. Thanks!

There is very little difference between formulas, one of those symptoms alone may be worth a swap but based on that list I'd be thinking about a trial of dairy free formula, which you'll need a prescription for from GP so I'd wait until your appointment or see if you can get seen any sooner rather than swapping now to potentially swap again in a week!

Id wait to see what your GP says.

I must admit that my knowledge of formula feeding is nearly 30 years' old but even then, it was considered very unwise to just change your baby's formula without proper advice first.

Your baby might have a minor underlying issue or could well not be tolerant of this particular brand but good advice is paramount.

The NHS website says it does no harm to change formula (but wont necessarily do any good either). It was a myth put about by formula companies that you need to stick to one.

Could it be that your baby might just have trapped wind? You didn't have this with your first but you might have had more time for burping after feeds etc when you didn't have a toddler too. I remember doing burping properly took sometimes up to an hour after each feed with dd, no way will I have time for that with dc2

she does A LOT of burps after and during feeds and also trumps a hell of a lot as well so not sure that it’s trapped wind, I make sure I wind her well as i don’t want the crying 😭 my toddler is quite patient when feeding her which is good!

My son was on cows milk formula at first but had all the same things you described. I switched him to soya formula as I only drink soya milk myself and he stopped all those symptoms within a couple of weeks. Now he's weaning and only has dairy free foods

And definitely try infacol for the windyness

I moved to cow and gate comfort and it was a game changer!! I tried moving back at 12 weeks and she was so uncomfortable so I went straight back to comfort and still on it now
