Baby clothes storage

We’re currently living in a tiny studio flat with no space for furniture or any storage. We’re waiting to hear about rentals but many won’t be available until autumn.
my baby is due in 2 weeks and I’m not sure where to store their clothes. They’re currently in a pile on the floor waiting to be washed and ready.
our own clothes are currently in a laundry bag which is difficult enough to navigate.
would an ottoman/laundry basket be suitable temporarily? I just know they need changing very often so it will be a pain sifting through a pile of clothes several times a day. Any tips would really help as I’m trying to live as organised as possible but it’s very difficult with limited space. Tia

Buy a crib with a drawer underneath?

I had three little tiny Ikea tubs for DC2's clothes when he was tiny. Their clothes are so small to begin with you can get away with this and then around 80-90% of them are in the wash at any one time. I think you could use a laundry basket.

I only really had sleepsuits and vests for my babies, this is easy to sort through - it gets complicated if you have tiny tops and trousers and outfits that need to be matched. It might help for your sanity if you do something similar!

Thanks everyone, we haven’t space for a cot so they will be sleeping in a Moses basket until we can move out. IKEA tubs are a good shout as I don’t want to be bending constantly with the possibility I need a c-section. We have been gifted tons of clothes so unfortunately plenty of outfits with matching pieces! Although I intend to keep sleepsuits on the top of the pile for easy access.

You can often return items - even without receipt - and swap for larger sizes, if this would help. That way you can still use the lovely gifts but when your baby is a bit less delicate and when you hopefully have the storage space to organise them.

You don’t need to keep the gifted clothes, and if they are first size the baby will be out of them within weeks anyway. When the baby is here take a photo of them in ( or lying next to ) the gifted clothes to send to the kind person who gave them, then pass them on to a womens refuge, or a charity shop. Just keep what you want/ need.

Look at me in the lovely outfit my kind Honorary Aunty X sent.

Today is Wednesday and I am going to have my bath and afterwards I am going to wear this lovely outfit my kind Honorary Aunty Y gave me.

Could you put one or two little shelves on a wall maybe with a pole underneath, folded bodysuits and sleepsuits on the shelf and any cardigans on a hanger?

I had little storage baskets in the changing table. All clothes were rolled into a tube shape and then stored vertically in the basket.

A basket for vests, one for outfits, and one for babygros. Other smaller baskets for bibs, socks etc

When sorting clean tops and bottoms, I paired them up and rolled them into one tube. Not for everyone, but it worked for me.

You can get hanging canvas things for camping with different pockets/sections, could hang one over a door?

Something like this (if you need to save on floor space

Do you have storage under the bed/space to add storage? I also use "under bed" storage under my sofas (for toys!) which is a great use of otherwise wasted space.

Poppins2016 · 06/07/2023 08:06

You could also shift some things around and make space elsewhere.... do you have any kitchen cupboards that you could put baskets on top of (for things you don't need all the time) in order to make space elsewhere?

I got some of the plastic tower draws like these for the babies stuff it made it easy to separate out by age.
