Do I need permission? UK break

In around 7 weeks time we are hoping to have a UK break for a week to visit my partners parents. Been many times before, kids absolutely love it there.

It would be 2 days after my exs birthday, and would mean him giving up one weekend of access. Have offered for him to see son on his actually birthday.

There is no court order in place, but he is basically refusing to let me take him away as our son will miss his birthday party. He only sees our son, teenage DD refuses to spend time there anymore.

Can he stop me from taking him? I always work with him, let him change days, have extra, have less. But he sent our son off to his sisters house the night before fathers day this year and so being told I cannot go on a family break because now he is bothered about having him that particular weekend that suits his wants is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. It is literally the only booked time off work I can get this summer.

There's no court order. What can he actually do? If nothing, I wouldn't rise to the drama. I'd just message to say this x is happening and that's that.

How old are the children?

@Whatineed my thinking. Very emotionally abusive relationship though so I still many years on constantly second guess myself.

@brassbells 8 and 14.

Ok so your DS is old enough to know that he would enjoy being on holiday with you and his sister

If he would enjoy being on holiday with you guys then take them on holiday with you guys and ignore your ex

Especially as he was dumped on an aunt before on Father's Day and your ex sounds like he isn't a particularly lovely person when you say he was emotionally abusive this sounds like he is trying to control you again

So ignore your ex and go on holiday and have a wonderful time together

You have been considerate to ex in the past but he isn't being considerate to you and your plans

Personally I would tell him not ask him. He's happy for them to miss out on a holiday? Sound selfish to me. Tell him that the children were given the choice and they chose the holiday. He can't stop you from taking them within the UK.
