Sick baby… 2 weeks and going - help!

My nearly 10 month old has been sick for nearly 2 weeks, it started with a snotty nose that turned into a “croup type” infection and made her struggle to breathe. went to the GP and go amoxicillin as she had a double ear infection, steroids for the chest and an inhaler (which we never had to use)

7 days later she has a rash come out, back to the GP and they say it could be an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin or the start of something new.

3 days later her nose is completely blocked up, green snot and a LOT of it.

It’s now 14 days later, her nose is still blocked and yesterday she refused any milk at all. Eating as normal but won’t touch the bottle. She had 8oz all day!

went to put her to bed last night and WW3 kicked off, inconsolable screaming and tears like she was in pain. Finally went to bed about 9pm and slept through to 7am this morning.

this morning though she’s been crying, eventually got 5oz of milk in her but she would stop drinking and start crying (with tears) as if she’s in pain.

could it be that her nose is just frustrating her as she’s hungry and can’t really drink? Should I be calling the GP again as she’s reducing milk intake so drastically? I’ve emailed the health visiting team for an opinion but I’m just so stuck!!

she is usually the most content baby I’ve ever known, we go days and days without any tears normally but the last 2 weeks she’s been so unsettled and I don’t want to keep giving her calpol and ibuprofen if it’s not really doing anything.

any ideas? 😥

She is probably struggling to have her bottle if her nose is blocked, as you say. My DS used to struggle with that when he was younger and got a cold. He'd prefer to eat than have milk, but would also gag a bit more because he was breathing through his mouth whilst eating. They can't really win 🙁

Does the Calpol help at all? Like is she more settled once she's had it? If so, it's probably worth still giving her it if it makes her feel a bit better, or at least give her a night time dose. If you feel like it's going on a bit still, check in with your GP again to check it's okay to still give it to her after so many days. FWIW whenever I've had a similar situation they've always said it's fine if DS is still poorly.

See what the HV say, they may suggest feeding her smaller amounts butore often. Is she also having a bit of water with meals as that will count towards her hydration levels too.

Hope she feels better soon!

I can find lying flat very unpleasant with a heavy cold, so the bedtime drama might be that. Perhaps try a nap in the buggy so you can recline her but not all the way flat - both of mine seemed to sleep better that way (and cough a bit less) when they had a really heavy cold.

Can you use one of those suction things on her nose right before her bottle? Or how is she with a free flow sippy cup (or open cup)? Could you give her milk that way? I can remember dribbling milk painfully slowly into a tiny 3 or so month old DD2's mouth that way when she was too blocked up to breastfeed.
