Ryanair - cabin size stroller

Flying soon with RyanAir and wanting to get a stroller that we can keep with us in the cabin. I know you can wheel them to the plane and them put it in the hold for you but after a previous bad experience I don’t want it out of my sight!

Considering the ErgoBaby Metro as the Yoyo felt a bit flimsy to me. But concerned that technically it is just over the cabin baggage dimensions. Has anyone successfully taken one of these onboard?

The Ergobaby is by far our favourite, we’ve looked at the Cybex, Silver Cross, Bugaboo, Joie, and UppaBaby options but ruled these out for various reasons. The only others we like the look of but haven’t been able to try in person are the Chicco Goody Plus and the Joolz Aer+. Interested in any thoughts please! It must lie flat and be easy to put up and down. Not bothered about it being particularly light or having a great sunshade as we will use the snooze shade with it. Thank you!

Ryanair are stingy for cabin baggage and unless you make special arrangements (if that even is possible) they don't let you take prams on board. We recently flew Ryanair with our Chicco Goody and they take it on the tarmac or at the door (whereas it's been allowed in cabin on British Airways just fine)

More generally speaking we're pretty happy with our Chicco Goody. Our toddler loves a super upright seat and whilst it's not up to her very fussy standards, it's more upright than most supercompacts (I've made a post about his issue). We've had ours 17months now on 2 holidays and using it 2-4 times a week as our car pram and it's held up well. The fold is truly one hand. So easy. Downsides are that the harness feels cheap, and sometimes the break catches when going down kerbs. It pushes fairly well, but I've been spoilt by Bugaboo on our main pram and my wrists feel noticeably more tired after a day with the Goody (I've not got much comparison with other supercompacts though).

I flew last month with Ryanair and on the way out they wouldn’t let me take our yo-yo onboard with us (they collected it ag the steps of the plane). But on the way back we took it onboard without any issue.
My allowance was one cabin bag and a handbag so I was using the pushchair as my cabin bag - I wish I’d thought to argue this point on the way out as they wouldn’t have been able to deny it coming onboard as I’d paid for a cabin bag.

@HavingFaith thats so annoying; just goes to show it’s who you get on the gate! Ryanair are so stingy though aren’t they as even the yo-yo which is tiny is over their official limit of size

@Burpcloth thank you for your reply, we’ve not had chance to try the goody in person but I was impressed by the fold I saw in a video! It’s basically the same size as the ergo baby I think. I was impressed at the padding on the ergo, it looked really comfy but I must admit that I’ve been spoiled by a bugaboo and am wondering if we’d just be better buying something like a bugaboo bee for everyday car pram and travel away if we can’t take it onboard anyway as it’s a one unit fold unlike our current larger bugaboo

Yeah Ryanair made us leave our yoyo at the plane door yesterday despite us having paid for priority so we had a cabin bag (yoyo) and underseat bag. What was annoying was that a few peoples suitcases were bigger than the yoyo would have been. It’s also annoying as the check in lady said it would be fine to take on board but the gate staff decided it wasn’t.

How annoying @Weñor hope you have a lovely holiday

The Bee is my main pram, and I love it and have uhmmed and ahhed about just taking it ok trips abroad because it's a great, comfy, reliable pram. Buuut it fills our (admittedly small car) boot, and isn't particularly light. I think it's nice to go away and it be light enough to be able to carry the pram down steps with kid inside, have it in the back of the hire car and have room for suitcases, and to be able to fold it up and tuck it under a chair in a cosy restaurant..... all of which you can't do with the Bee.

Please just pay a bit extra and don’t fly Ryanair - they’re awful and the amount of time and hassle you’ll spend getting an “acceptable” stroller (and being told it has to go in the hold anyway and it comes out looking like a t-Rex chewed it) vs just booking with a less basic service airline. Honestly, I’ve flown a lot and Ryanair are the one airline I boycott even if it costs me twice whatever they initially quote elsewhere.

Buy the stroller that works for you otherwise and then plan accordingly.

I have the joolz aer and I'm really happy with it but it doesn't lie completely flat. I had the silver cross jet and it's rubbish. Unpleasant to push and a definite no!

Jensab23 · 15/09/2023 13:17

I did this and argued it with them but they still wouldn’t allow me to take it on board, despite mine being smaller than most cabin bags. Ryanair staff at Al stansted told us that there had been an accident so no pushchairs are allowed on board but I can’t find any details about this anywhere!
