Hello,

Looking for some advice from parents that may have been going through the same as me with my little boy.

To start he is such a lovely boy. Very friendly, gives the most amazing hugs. Loves rough play with with his brother and playing ball.

I never worried about his development up until about 18 months when I noticed he wasn't progressing with language. He babbled as normal and points to things he wants, even though lately he is doing more hand leading.

My concerns are that he doesn't follow any instructions. I don't think he understands anything I say. He has no words at all.

Very worried mum.

My ds is now nearly 28 months. He still has no words. He is making very very slow progress with his understanding. He unfortunately regressed in a few areas. He no longer says any words and stopped gesturing....pointing, clapping and waving.

We have been referred for an ASD assessment but that could take a year or more. We attend a private speech and language therapist.

I'm a bit lost. Not sure what else to do for him. I'm very scared for his future.

Hi Hoth

My son at age 2.5 said his first word which was "duck"
He haven't done much of gestures at that age ,and ignored me alot
me and my wife been worrying alot about him.Mostly i was worrying cause been googling and watching stupid "red flags" videos which put me in totaly depressive mental state

At age of 3.5-4 he start talking in sentencess

At age 5 which is now, he at year1 of school ,knowing his alphabet, numbers can write abit and read abit,he have alot of friends and good displine
And his english is better than mine now....))))

He grow up sooo much since age of 2.5-3.

Just want to suggest you: Please stop watching and googling "red flags" useless and mentally dangerous(for parents) videos and topics.
Go to professional developmental pediatrician and he will tell you.

All the best to you and your family.

You mention him regressing OP. It may be worth looking at developmental disorders that have a regressive stage . One example I know of is rett syndrome, though it is more prevalent in girls than boys. I'm sure you must be worried sick and hope you manage to get some answers and support, for you and your lovely wee boy

He’s a happy friendly baby, always laughing, plenty of eye contact, loves giving hugs, I don’t think there’s anything out of the ordinary about his behaviour,

My DS does all these things and has a diagnosis of ASD.

You describe a much more stereotypical presentation but it can be more subtle.

@Hoth
Hey OP,

I know this thread was a while ago! I’m going through similar with my LO. Sometimes I feel like she understand language. Other times I do not. She will do the actions to most nursery rhymes but in terms of asking her to point to her nose. Or get her shoes. Nothing.

Her hearing is fine, SALT basically said keep doing what you’re doing.

How is your DS doing now?

Im having the same issues with my 21 month old boy he can say some words and he tries to sing nursery rhymes ... but he hand leads me to things he wants so I'm just curious if the hearing test will help and so anything
