Crawling disrupting sleep?

8month DS has just learnt to crawl. He had some bad nights for about 2 weeks before hand. I naively thought when he nailed the crawling it would settle down but last night was the worst by far. He woke at midnight and wouldn't go back to sleep until 2:30 then woke at 3:30 and 4 and then he was up for the day. So I got 2 hours sleep (10-12)

I'm just so tired. Im assuming it's the crawling, if it is, how long is it likely to disrupt his sleep for? Could it be something else? I've had to take him back to 3 naps a day because he starts his day around 4 am.

DH tries to help as much as possible but he commutes into London at 5 am so I try to let him sleep as much as possible during the week. Weeks of bad sleep are taking its toll on me and it's starting to affect my ability to be a good mum. I just don't know if it's something I just need to ride out or if it's something I'm doing.

DD did this, she used to crawl in her sleep in her sleeping bag. It was like something from a horror film! She was a terrible sleeper so I don't know if it was her poor sleep or the crawling that made it worse. Sorry for no answers but plenty of sympathy!

It's nothing you are doing.

My DD use to crawl around her cot until she started walking. Then even now she sleeps in weird positions.

The only thing we did to get her back to sleep and help keep her asleep was alter her naps e.g. when they were, making them shorter, then drop one.

Maybe 8 month regression?

Haha yeah the crawling in a sleeping bag is quite something. I guess my coffee habit is going to have to continue until it passes then. (Sorry body!)

@Napoleandynamite Is there an 8 month sleep regression? That could make sense. He took the 4 month one very seriously so maybe he's making sure he's also an 8 month regression star pupil.

This is very common. The 8 mo regression is basically they want to practice all their new skills!! It's so exciting being able to crawl and go places!!

(i'm not long out of the 2 year regression, and we've gone through every regression going. It will pass in a few weeks)

@UnravellingTheWorld ah thank you. At least I know to just ride it out. The sleep deprivation and coffee clouds my brain into thinking it's something I'm doing.

Bless him he does look very happy with himself at 3am crawling around his cot. It would just be even cuter if it was in a couple more hours time bud.
