Baby wakes at 7.30am has an hour nap around 12pm and we take him
up and start bedtime routine at 7.45pm
. The last 3 months it is taking 90mins- 2 hours to get him to fall asleep .

3 days a week he attends nursery all day. The other days he really active. I can’t understand why he is taking such a long time to settle down . I am considering stopping his nap ? I can then put him to bed earlier if he is showing signs of tiredness ??

I have no idea if this will work or will just create a miserable toddler . I am due a second child next week and am worried as I can’t imagine how I will cope if DS continues to take hours to fall asleep.

( Ds has a double bed and we lay with him until he falls asleep )

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Tbh I wouldn’t make any big changes before the baby arrives. That’s a lot going on. And if your toddler gets super tired and grumpy because he’s not napped then you’ll need to get him to bed quickly, and doing anything quickly with a newborn present is pressure you just don’t need.

Whats he like at bed time? Any chance he’s scared or overtired or overstimulated? What does your bedtime routine look like?

@ReeseWitherfork i do worry if he is over tired . He will run his eyes and gives signs that he is tired before bed.

I bath him, bottle of milk, teeth , stories then cuddle . This is around 25 mins. Then it takes at least 60 mins but usually 90mins and sometimes longer for him to fall asleep.

I sometimes think if we had of kept his cot and not gotten a bed I would have left him after cuddling for 20 mins but as he is in. Bed , if he is not fully asleep when we leave he will get out of bed - so we stay with him until he is asleep. Is this the problem?

Once he is asleep he sleeps all night apart from waking once he will
cry and I will change his nappy and then rub his back and he will go straight back to sleep.

He is a lovely child but bed times
seem to be taking up hours !
