Getting vaccine for chickenpox after classroom exposure?

As per title - is there any point in getting the vaccine following exposure at school in classroom or is it already too late for it to be of benefit? Does anyone know what the advice is? For additional info, child is eight, not had it before, and I am 34 weeks pregnant.

It may help if the exposure was less than five days ago, but as the carrier is infectious before spots appear this is hard to identify. The more pressing question is whether you have had it, or are vaccinated?

If you are a primary school teacher, the chances of you not being immune are fairly small. Has your GP tested your blood for chicken pox immunity?

Sorry my op wasn’t clear - my 8 year old child is the one had the (possible/likely) exposure.

I’ve never had chickenpox - or the vaccine. Similarly my 8 year old has never had chickenpox - or the vaccine.

Unfortunately, it isn't recommended for pregnant women.

You need to speak to your midwife or GP urgently tomorrow. They may decide to offer you aciclovir or the vaccine.

Apologies, that's the wrong link! Try this one www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/5582/smpc

I don't know if this is helpful information or not, but my mum caught chicken pox from my sister when she was pregnant with me and I'm fine!

You should speak to your midwife to see what they say because it’s not direct exposure to you. They won’t give you a vaccine but might offer a different treatment if they think you are at risk
