Did you always know how many kids you wanted?

Just curious, did it change for you after having one, or two, or did you end up with the number you’d always wanted

Didn't want any. DH wanted two, so we did, and he was right.

Wanted 6.

Have 1. They are disabled due to genetic condition I carry a faulty gene for.

Would have been unfair to have more knowing they had 50% chance of same disability.

But I'm happy with my decision because it was about future children and not me.

Wanted 3

Lost 6

Eventually had 3.

after losing so many if I could have had more I absolutely would have done.

None-until I was 37!

Alway1insomethingstat · 28/06/2023 20:34

I’ve always wanted 4. I only have one. Although 2 angel babies. And we will try for at least one more.

Wanted none, got two step kids, very happy

PimpMyFridge · 28/06/2023 21:13

Wanted 2, luckily DH was same. As soon as second was born I knew I was done. So that was clear cut. Very fortunate it was so simple.

I grew up an only in a single parent family and really missed that family unit. So I always wanted 3 or 4 growing up.

I've settled now with 2. I still think a third would be lovely but I'd rather give the two I have more than spread myself thinner

This 100%

SwordToFlamethrower · 19/07/2023 00:48

I never wanted children. Never wanted to be a wife.

Married with 3 children.

Spottypineapple · 19/07/2023 08:15

Never really thought about it too much but knew I wanted 'some'

Now pregnant with number 2 and already thinking I'd like a third, maybe fourth!! But work and finances over the next few years will be the decider.

DryIce · 19/07/2023 08:21

Never wanted any really. Decided what the hell and had one. Loved it so had another soon after, and didn't want an only. Would then have happily had more but husband was done!

professionalnomad · 20/07/2023 14:08

Wanted 0
Have two
Tubes now firmly tied!

Hollyppp · 20/07/2023 14:24

wanted 3. Currently have 1 and another on the way. Husband more keen for 3 than he used to be. Need to see how our marriage copes with 2!!!

bakewellbride · 20/07/2023 19:00

I always wanted 3 but due to lots of various reasons I have changed my mind and 100% done at 2. Dh is getting the snip. Reasons include:

  • car / house size
  • it's another roll of the dice. Getting pregnant again is a huge risk - child could have disabilities, traumatic childbirth. I honestly don't know how I'd cope with a miscarriage. Sticking with my healthy and happy 2 feels 'safe'.
  • money reasons
  • no family support so even 2 feels hard
  • main reason: I struggled enormously when my second was little with sleep deprivation and mentally and physically hardly coped.

But I'm coming out of the other side now. I absolutely adore my 2 and I love being a mum. I have zero desire to go back to night feeds etc again and feel incredibly blessed to have the family I have.

2chocolateoranges · 20/07/2023 19:04

I wanted 3, dh wanted 1, we compromised on 2.

FoodFann · 20/07/2023 19:18

No. I used to want two. Then zero. Now I’ve got one, and want as many as I can possibly have! 😆

orangeclubsarebest · 20/07/2023 19:22

We wanted 4 but number 3 did me in 😂

Gorgeous, happy baby. But it was a difficult pregnancy and birth and he didn't sleep for years.

SkankingWombat · 20/07/2023 19:24

Wanted 2, got 2, and am happy with 2 for all the reasons I didn't want more or less than that pre-DCs. In fact, I feel even more strongly about the time and financial reasons now we're living life with two.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 20/07/2023 19:27

Wanted 1, on the fence about having a second. Agreed and then, obvs, that second egg split. Lucky they're cute.
