Mothers of June babies

Hi, does anyone who has a June baby feel they struggled in school socially/academically? How did they compare to your other children who aren't June babies.
Debating whether my DS is ready for school this year or to defer him so would be interesting to know how other children his same birth month managed
We are in Northern Ireland so the cut off is July 1st so he's one of the very youngest

My son has 2 friends born 31August so were the youngest in their year and my son is a July baby. All have done extremely well academically Edinburgh,Durham and Leeds Uni . I was born in August and I genuinely cannot ever remember feeling disadvantaged. So I personally wouldn’t recommend keeping child off school for extra year, but I know that people have different opinions nowadays.Another friend did keep her child back a year and as a teenager felt really angry that she was a year behind.

my child is a June baby and went in with his correct year group as there was no option for him to defer. I personally notice a huge difference (academically/maturity etc) compared to his older classmates -some of whom are almost 6 when he is just turning 5! He is definitely in a group of young friends - all turning five over May-august. They have naturally gravitated towards each other. I would guess it depends on your child’s personality. My son is young in the year group but also very young for his age (slight speech delay etc)

Don't have one but am one. I never felt behind or anything. We did start late though. In my day in my part of the country the >31 May birthdays didn't start till after Christmas. So went into the same year but missed the first term.

Which seems odd now and I must have missed quite a bit.

I was one of the youngest and never felt behind - took my 11+ (when that was a thing) at age 10 and got an A. Age isn't the only factor when you're talking about academics.

My DD is young in her year. Academically no issues. Socially, she was in a mixed 4/5 class when she was in Y5 and a mixed 5/6 class when in Y6. This was good for her because she usually played with the younger year at break/lunch.
High school was fine.
Going to Uni was hard. I think she felt very young to be away from home. She’s stuck at it though, although we’ve been on lots more visits than we did with older 2.
She’s about to graduate with a 1st from Oxford, so as I said academically no problem. (Proud mum boast!)

Lovely hearing such positive stories, thank you, you've helped my anxiety so much!
I just collected his end of preschool report which was very positive and his teacher advised he is very ready for P.1
