10 day old baby wheezing noises when breathing?

My 10 day old makes strange wheezing noises when she breathes sometimes. Not all of the time, she breathes normally mostly but then will randomly start wheezing quite a high pitched wheeze and quite loudly and it’s really scary for me. I couldn’t sleep last night as I was scared.

She was also sick 3x after feeding her this morning which she hasn’t done before.

Is this normal? 😪

You have to call your doctor ASAP! I wouldn't wait for responses on Mumsnet!

Your doctor will be able to see you right away!

Yeah I would see a GP today, it’s probably nothing serious but always best to check

both my babies totally had me freaked out with their breathing, they make some strange noises don’t they! if it’s just the noise i wouldn’t be concerned - but make sure you’re aware of signs that baby could be struggling to breathe such as nose flaring and sucking under ribs with each breath (my dd2 had bronchiolitis at 5 weeks and had a grunt/wheeze but also had these symptoms).

as for the throwing up is baby formula fed or breastfed?

Please see your GP asap. It might be nothing but you don’t want to take the risk with a newborn.

Agree that it's best to see your GP to be sure there is nothing wrong and a more urgent service if there is any sign that she is struggling to breathe (look for tugging in at neck or stomach).

Mine would sometimes have this very noisy breathing as a newborn that used to alarm me but the GP didn't think there was anything to worry about. The health visitor mentioned floppy larynx (Laryngomalacia) as a possible reason. She also vomited quite frequently but it never seemed to bother her and the GP didn't think she needed any treatment.

Just in case anyone reads this in future worrying - took her to A&E and all fine which was so worth doing for peace of mind. She just makes growling noises sometimes… very relieved!

Really glad she’s ok 😊 Definitely better to be safe than sorry!
