How much more baby clothes will I need

I’ve just gone through dds old baby clothes in preparation to see how much I have and what I still need to buy for dc2. It’s been four years since I had a baby and I don’t remember how much of each size I had for dd. Dd was also a summer baby so mostly lived in just a nappy or a vest for the first few weeks of her life whereas dc2 is going to be a winter baby so the amount of clothes they will need I imagine will vary.

in newborn size I have:
sleepsuit x2
vest x1
pram suit x1 (just in case)

in 0-1 months:
sleepsuits x10
leggings and long sleeve vest x1

in 0-3 months
sleepsuits x3
lots of vests
pram suit

I know I’m going to need lots of vests in different sizes and a mix of shirt and long sleeved.
I also have 4 knitted cardigans varying in size

IMore sleep suits definitely. I don't think DC2 wore anything resembling an outfit till 5months because sleepsuits are the easy option!

Cardis are handy because you can take them on and off. I had some long sleeve vests as our house can get cold but mostly stuck to layers that were easy to remove.

Plenty of blankets for layering. I loved our snow/pramsuit as I walked for miles in winter but used blankets too when it wasn't cold enough and for in the car.

Depends on the size of your baby which you won't know. Mine were in newborn for at about a month so I had a bit more in that size. But I also hated sleepsuits, found them really fiddly and the opposite of the easy option so I had lots of long and short sleeve vests and dungarees from very small.

I would have more 0-3months ‘clothing’ leggings, socks, long sleeve vests, hats. My DD was January baby, and she lived in vests, leggings and cardigans.

How big was DC1? My second was bigger than the first so I didn't need as many clothes in the smaller sizes.

Have a look at these blankets too, they're far easier than snow suits Wink

DC1 was 7lbs2 so lasted in newborn for maybe 2-3 weeks

Yeah my first was 6lb 8oz and the second was a more plump 8lb 3oz. She didn't really do newborn clothes Wink

I had a boy last time but we went through so many vests every day, especially when he was tiny. I think it was probably due to the newborn nappies being a bit big on him but I’d pretty much have to change a wet vest every time the nappy was wet. I gradually ordered more and more as I went along and I’m just doing the same as you now for #2 (a girl) and I have ended up with over 20 White newborn/0-1 vests, only ordered one new packet! I think it’s less about the size on the label sometimes and more the size it actually is. Matalan newborn is like a 0-3 elsewhere. I got M&S up to 1 month but going to use them as newborn for the hospital as they’re so small. Next has weird sizes too because ‘first size’ would sound like it’s the size you buy first when really it was pretty much too small for my son when he arrived.

I’m getting quite a few leggings and long sleeve vest sets (some of the H&M ones where you get three vests and they match three leggings) to use as outfits for when people come to see the baby in the early days so it looks like clothes but it’s really jammies to sleep in. I had a thing last time about trying not to have him in jammies during the day if visitors were coming, unless it’s one of the fancier Sleepsuits with a collar or something
