Rotating car seat for newborn worth it?

Those of you who had one of those rotating car seat bases, like the pebble 360 or Cybex cloud z how useful was it having that option?

They are £200 more than the regular ones so just wondering if it’s worth it or not?

We had the cybex. I found it saved my back as I have lower back problems and not having to bend and twist to get the baby in was great.
It also came off the base to clip onto our pram frame, which we used a lot those first 6 months.

We had the Joie 360 from about 18 months and I really wish we'd got it from newborn.

We had bought one of those ones that you can clip in and off the base and onto the pram frame which was a total waste of money. Car seat only left the car a handful of times. 360 from birth would have been far more useful

We had a Cybex and it was awesome, don't see the point in infant carriers to be honest.

Meant to say the cybex also lies flat when clipped onto the pram - really useful for when the baby is asleep in the car and you can transfer them.out without getting them out of the seat

Many of the 360 seats don't have very good fits for newborn despite saying they are from birth. They can often leave baby chin to chest. I'd personally use a decent infant carrier and max that out before switching or go for a 25kg seat that is appropriate for newborns such as an Avionaut Sky if you want a fixed seat.

Hugasauras · 23/06/2023 15:41

Oh I just realised you are talking about bases that presumably fit an infant carrier? I never found the need for a rotating base for the infant carrier. I found it was pretty easy to get baby in and out of an infant carrier.

I think there's a brief window where 360 seats are useful, but past a certain point I found it actually more annoying as DD1 would try to climb in, but 360 seats tend to sit a lot higher so I had to lift, whereas a 25kg seat not only lasts longer but is easy for a toddler to climb into themselves. I should have saved the money and gone straight from infant carrier to 25kg seat (I would have bought the Sky if it had been out when I had DD1).

We had a 3 door car when we got our Cybex Cloud Z and couldn’t haven’t managed without it. The lie flat function of the Cloud Z has been more useful now we have a 4 door.

I agree with the poster who saus they don't see the point in infant carriers. I totally agree. We clipped it on to the pram once. Complete waste of money. The toddler now has a maxi cosi mica, which is 360 isize, and that would've been suitable from birth. It's great. Should have just bought that and a pushchair rather than the whole system. The carrycot barely got used either.

We have the pebble 360 and the rotation is a life saver. Pregnancy and labour ruined my back, and baby is a big boy! So has made a huge difference

UnravellingTheWorld · 23/06/2023 18:01

Cannot recommend enough

SamanthaVimes · 23/06/2023 18:54

I don’t understand how people without the rotation get their kids in. I wouldn’t be without it! We have a cybex cloud z and then a sirona which uses the same base

Cheeseplantt · 23/06/2023 18:54

I had the joie 360 from birth & used it til DC was nearly 5. Amazing - thoroughly recommend it

RecklessBlackberries · 23/06/2023 20:52

We switched from an infant seat to a Joie spinning seat at 7 months and I wish we'd had it from the start. Baby clearly finds it so much more comfortable than the infant seat and doesn't scream like he used to.

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 23/06/2023 21:19

We had an infant carrier and then switched to the 360 at just over a year but probably needed to switch about 8 months. We used the infant carrier on the pram a lot. We would go into town on a Saturday morning and walk around. So it was just easier to clip it on to the pram. It’s handy for doing short things like being in town for an hour or popping to the shop. We carried DD in and out of the house in her infant carrier and would just shove a blanket over her if needed.

At about 6/7 months it became harder to carry the infant carrier so I started to put her in the car straight into the seat. About 8 months she got more squirmy which meant she was really hard to get in her seat.

BabyB2022 · 23/06/2023 21:39

Yes, I love ours (cybex for baby and joie 360 for toddler). I really struggled to get my toddlers straps tight enough when heavily pregnant without turning it round so no idea what I'd have done without a 360 one! Also find it handy when you don't have much space to get them in (eg when someone parked too close).

trrk · 24/06/2023 11:47

We really liked the rotating base but have had a lot of problems with it in our car due to a slight incline in the car seats which means the base puts the car seat at an angle which cases our DD's head to flop everytime she falls asleep. We ended up having to take th ebase out and just belt it in. We have the model before the one that reclines in the car so maybe this is no longer a problem anymore. We never chose to use the infant carrier on the pram as it's less comfortable compared to a bassinet for newborns but we did carry her into the house in it quite a bit.

For the second stage car seat we have opted for a longer lasting 25kg one over something like the joie 360 so we can keep her rear facing for longer. Initially we had planned to upgrade to the Sirona and keep using the base but decided against after reading that it's not good for tall children.

BertieBotts · 01/07/2023 13:26

I've not had a rotating infant carrier but I've had a rotating toddler seat and normal infant carrier.

100% not worth £200 extra IMO. You can get the rotating toddler seats with their own base built in (so not needing the compatible base that does both) for way less than the £500 (extra £200 on rotating infant seat + £300 for compatible toddler seat)

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 01/07/2023 13:32

100% amazing, we used rotating with our DD from newborn up to about 4yo whrn she moved into the bigger/high back booster style with a normal seatbelt
