DS5 with tonsilitis again!

5th time in 4 months! Antibiotics yet again.

Dr stated it needs to be a total of 7 times in a year to take further action.

That's fair enough - I'm just sad that he's suffering. He doesn't eat, loses his voice, continuously coughing and vomiting from the agitation. He's lost so much weight over these past few months.

Is it just one of those things? Is he just prone to it? He's generally healthy. Was a 27 weeker but no health problems at all.

Anything I can do to help him out in between these infections?

Yes it probably is just one of those things and not necessarily indicative of anything else.

My DD had her tonsils out aged 5 and we didn't have to follow any annoying rules about so many times in a year. The doctor could see her tonsils were always massive and collecting debris (which caused infections) so she had them whipped out (one year from referral to removal)

His tonsils are the same
He snores every night now!

Fingers crossed he gets help soon.

Have they taken swaps of the tonsils? My child was younger but had tonsillitis every month for over a year. They got really high temps 41/42 with it so we were usually sent up to the hospital for monitoring of the high temp as they were little. So they always took a swap of the tonsils. Theirs always came back as not bacterial (therefore viral) although they always had been given antibiotics when swap taken just in case. They did start to talk about taking tonsils out as went way over 7 times in a year but because they knew it was viral, and therefore had a much better chance of self resolving, we left it 6 months and they’ve not had tonsillitis for years now. One of my sister’s children had the same but older, similar age to yours, and that was bacterial - used to come back like clockwork two weeks after antibiotics stopped, so they had theirs taken out. They perked up immediately after operation having been below par for months and months. Good luck with it all. Definitely keep your own record of when it happens in case you need to be referred to ENT.
