Tax free childcare & free hours

Hi all,

I am currently getting the tax free childcare for our lo
She turns 3 in December and I've read that I could be eligible to recieve the free 30 hours alongside the tax free childcare? Is this right?
I keep hearing and reading different things.
Both me & my partner work full time.

Can anyone give me some info on how this works please and how I'd put that through each month?

I'm assuming the free hours would be taken off and then the remaining balance would be paid using the tax free childcare?

As my lo goes full time I'd prefer to split these hours over the 52 weeks rather than just term time.

Thanks.

Yes! It's amazing!

You will have to ask the nursery if they let you spread the hours or not - it's meant to be term time only but nurseries can opt to spread it.

On the same place online you do the tax free childcare there is a bit to apply for your 30 free hours - or they might have already sent you your code online. It only starts the term after they are 3.

Yes thats correct. You need a code from the .gov website to give to your childcare provider. Whether they will let you spread it over 52 weeks is up to them so worth checking.

Most will ask for a top up amount which will cover their loss from the free hours. Still a massive amount less though!

Yes you can! Apply online in your tax free childcare account - you’ll get a code to pass on

Childcarechoices.gov.uk will help.

Ours is spread over the 52 weeks, essentially it works out at about 22 hrs a week of funded, so two full days. DD is nursey full time, the bill would be around 1020 goes down to about 640 ish , then tax free element, 20% knocked off that. So costs us about £500 per month for a full time nursey place. You need to apply for the 30 free hours on the childcare account, and then as a previous poster has said the code is then given to the nursery

Just so yiu are aware: the 30 hours starts the term after they are 3. As your child is 3 in Dec, it'll start from Jan.

Yes you both needing to be earning more than the equivalent 16 hours per week at the minimum wage to qualify. It kicks in the starts of the term after she turns three so it would be Jan 2024 when you benefit. It makes a massive difference when it does come in though!

Yes we both in the threshold to get the 30 free hours & the tax free childcare, she goes to a childminders full time and the childminder has already said I could spread the hours over the 52 weeks rather than just term time.

So does the childminder actually apply for the hours themselves once they have the code and all I'd need to do is the tax free childcare part eachmonth Like I do now?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to get my head around it and not leave it til the last minute without knowing how it works 😁

I have to sign a form at nursery at the start of every term. Also I had to give them our national insurance numbers
