Looking for a easy cleaning high chair with minimal crevices for food to get into!!

I don't want the ikea high chair

Can anyone recommend a good one?

What is it about the IKEA one you don't like as that might help people advise?

knittingaddict · 16/06/2023 11:01

Shame. I was going to recommend the ikea one.

Gigi89x · 16/06/2023 11:01

My niece had it and she was able to escape the chair, id like one thats more secure

Sorry but the ikea one is by far the best. Just take it outside and hose it down.

This one is very easy to clean although massive price difference from IKEA one which I personally loved. Tray even goes in the dishwasher!

The Tripp Trapp isn’t bad for cleaning especially as you can do without the tray and push it right up to the table. You need to buy the harness separately but it has shoulder bits so is almost impossible to escape- we had 2 of them and 2 cushions so could rotate for washing. It looks decent too because I know the ikea one is so practical but it isn’t the most attractive.

JenniferBarkley · 16/06/2023 11:28

I'd start with the IKEA one given the price and ease of use. Neither of mine ever even tried to escape it. I do have a niece who is a monkey and needs to be carefully strapped into anything they use - so it will depend on the baby. I think she's ok in the IKEA one when out and about though.

Once ours outgrew the IKEA one we moved them into Tripp Trapps which are great for older kids but I preferred IKEA for the baby stage as it's easier to clean.

I had an escape artist baby and I used old fashioned reins threaded through mine to restrain him. The whole thing went in my dishwasher (legs removed obvs)

MinnieEgg · 16/06/2023 14:19

I had the Tripp Trapp one pushed up to the table for my oldest. Pretty easy to clean.

Of course she was still using it when I had my second as they are actually a better toddler chair than a high chair so I got...the IKEA one. Which was much better.

7Worfs · 16/06/2023 14:22

Another vote for the Tripp Trapp and you can probably find it half price on Marketplace.
Your child will use it for years - so good for eating, colouring, crafts etc at the dining table.

SpringBunnies · 16/06/2023 14:48

Sorry, was going to say Ikea. If a child can escape the Ikea one, they can escape anything. Nothing is going hold them down. They can stand up on the Trip Trap too. If you are using a harness, you can tie it down on the Ikea as well.

BertieBotts · 16/06/2023 14:49

Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster, strapped to an ordinary chair.

No high chair is escape proof but this one is tighter than the Ikea one.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 16/06/2023 14:52

Nope, doesn’t exist.
Although I regret giving away our stokke Tripp Trapp before we had our last baby as it was lovely looking, tucked in like a regular dining chair, has longevity and baby couldn’t escape.

Currently have IKEA with ‘highchair catchy’ tray underneath plus additional footrest from Etsy which is useless as falls down all the time. IKEA is not really much easier to clean and their legs dangle which isn’t good for their hips, and yes, DD is constantly standing up in it (yes we have the straps on!!).

FixItBotchIt · 16/06/2023 21:59

Yes to the IKEA one for ease of cleaning, it is so good for that, I love it when we go to a restaurant or cafe and they use IKEA ones, so easy to keep clean.

I'd say try it, my older DD never tried to escape it, we actually switched to the IKEA one as her Red Kite one was so hard to keep clean. My younger DD has just turned one and we use the Joie Mimzy Snacker which is amazing, I have found it pretty easy to keep clean, I use a little hand held hoover for crumbs and the waterproof fabric is easy to wipe down (I use an old toothbrush for the straps). The straps are black so hide a lot!

I remember thinking my friend must be using it wrong when she said her eldest kept on escaping the ikea high chair.

then I had my second and discovered what sort of PFB I really had!

LeafHunter · 16/06/2023 22:03

Tripp trapp here and it’s amazing. We got ours on eBay - I spent most of my pregnancy searching for one.

mobear · 16/06/2023 22:04

We have a Tripp Trapp. There are definitely crevices food can get into but you can pull apart the seat fairly easily to clean inside them.

IceCreamNuts · 16/06/2023 22:07

We’ve got the Red Kite Feed Me Combi 4-in-1 Highchair and find it so easy to clean.

847arc · 16/06/2023 22:14

I had a fancy but pita to clean chair for (docile) dc1, then swapped to an Ikea for my sanity. I then gave up completely with escape artist dc2 and just sat him on my knee.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 16/06/2023 23:21

We just use a M&P snug seat strapped to a chair and he sits to the table with us.

lorisparkle · 16/06/2023 23:24

We used the old fashioned reins as a harness and then attached them round the back. They could not escape the ikea high chair!

Livinginaclock · 16/06/2023 23:29

Try the IKEA one, your baby might not even try to escape.
Never mind high chair, mine stayed in her cot until she was 3 as it didn't cross her mind to try and get out, either that or she was lazy like me

MerryHen · 16/06/2023 23:29

This one

Very similar to the IKEA one but with a five point harness.

I too am currently doing high chair research 😁

TurquoiseDress · 17/06/2023 06:20

Hands down the Tripp Trapp which was amazing!

And it's still going several years later, DC2 used it for their high chair and now it gets used for meals and colouring in/craft activities at the table.

Well worth the money spent!

The IKEA one is great as well and superb value for money- the grandparents had one each. We found ourselves tripping over the legs very easily as they are quite wide spread
