For the last few weeks my son (10) keeps feeling sick he will randomly start to feel sick then get upset he’s even waking in the night feeling sick and constantly asking for reassurance that’s he’s not going to vomit :(
he’s also complaining of body aches , we have seen a doctor who has sent him for bloods which he’s having Monday, has anyone else’s kids had this and what was it caused by? Maybe anxcity? All this started a couple of weeks after having a vomiting bug but that wouldn’t explain his body aches :/ feeling abit worried now tbh

It can take a while for the stomach to get back to normal again after a tummy bug, the helpful fauna of the stomach and bowel can get killed off by the bug. You could try a children's probiotic, also not having dairy for a couple of weeks, especially milk can help too.

It sounds like he finds vomiting really distressing, it's possible that is what's making him wake . The aches and nausea can be physical symptoms caused by anxiety as can the waking at night. However unless he's prone to Anxiety I'd focusing on ruling out physical causes first.

Thanks for that
the bug was around 2 months ago and tbh I think it’s made him scared to get sick again
the asking for constant reassurance makes me think anxcity but then again he wasn’t like this before the bug :/

Are the aches muscle aches or joint aches? Any other symptoms?

My dd was diagnosed with coeliacs and joint pains were the first symptom, closely followed by nausea then actual sickness. She was also slightly pale, quite thin, often had circles under her eyes, tired and grumpy tho.

You can develop anxiety about a specific thing that you find really distressing. There's more generalised forms of anxiety, but it can be quite specific like this. There's actually a phobia of vomiting, emetophobia. I know about this because a friend has it. When she or her DC get sick with anything stomach related she finds it really distressing and scary and that fear that she could vomit or have to clean vomit up constantly circling in her head to the point of a panic attack.

Two months could still be his gut hasn't recovered from the bug. Sometimes food allergies are triggered by a stomach bug, like gluten. Dairy issues are usually transient but could potentially last longer. If he is really focused on this, it could be anxiety. One thing there is not to keep giving lots of reassurance as it can feed in to the loop. I'm not saying don't reassure, but first time you offer a full reassurance then if he keeps asking you can say something like we've already discussed this or I've already answered that question and move the conversation into something else, like ask them a different question or suggest an activity or direct them back to what they're supposed to be doing. My DDs psychologists advice and it does help. Too much reassurance can actually validate the fear in their mind.
