Toys for a two year old

My DD is turning 2 this July and I'm brainstorming some toy ideas for her birthday.

I'm wondering if she's too young for a tonies box, as a main present - so would be happy to buy some smaller bits and pieces.

Her favourite things currently are playing tea parties, books, things with lots of bits and pieces that she basically throws in and out of bags and boxes and her scuttle bug bike.

What toys have you found the best investment for little ones?

Mine is super into roleplay toys at the moment - so toy kitchen, tea set, toy cleaning set, baby dolls, etc. She also really likes building type toys, so Brio, building blocks, her train set and so on. Puzzles, puppets and teddies are also big with her atm.

By far her favourite gift ever though has been the swing/slide set in the garden.

DS for a yoto for his second birthday and it's still a hit almost 2 years later.

I'd also recommend magna tiles, a scooter and duplo for longevity.

Sorry, Duplo I meant, not Brio - that's the brand of the train set!

LadyTemperance · 14/06/2023 17:22

Duplo, duplo and then more duplo. You can get sets of whatever interests him as well as just blocks. So animals, train set, vehicles, house furnishings etc

Not too young for a tonie box- mine has used older siblings one since she could crawl!

  • Duplo. So much you can do with it. Get a baseboard.
  • Brio train set - lots of other brands do compatible bits and bobs e.g. dinosaur bridge. Tailor to your child's obsessions.
  • more play food for tea parties!
  • books. Pip and posy were very popular with my lot. Also anything with lift the flap. Again, think about what themes they enjoy.
  • balance bike or scooter. Don't forget the helmet! Tricycle is also an option.
  • whiteboard/easel. General drawing/painting stuff. What you choose can depend on your own level of mess tolerance!

Yoto box! Miles better than the Tonie. My DD is now 5 and still uses it every night

BingandSulaandFlop · 14/06/2023 20:38

Toy kitchen
Playdoh
Doll and pushchair
Toy garage
Little Tikes car
Basic Orchard game (the postbox one is good for teaching colours)

All still going strong 2 years later!
