Does anyone want to learn Italian?

I've decided to set aside one hour a day to learn Italian. I've got the Michel Thomas course and the Hugo Learn Italian book. Does anyone want to join me and practice on here?

I was v impressed with the health services over there when my mum had a stroke two years ago. She had to be transferred from her local hospital to the main one, and she told me the doctor held her hand all the way in the ambulance and sang to her. Just wouldn't happen here, would it?

I haven't got weekly access to any italians, but take your point ks! Your help would be greatly appreciated though. I find michel thomas a good way to boost confidence and get up and running quite quickly.

ks, I've noticed Italians say "va bene" a lot. What do they mean by it? I get the impression it sort of translates as "OK" or "right then"

I want to find an Italian now......

spacedonkey · 14/12/2004 13:31

I think you need an Italian mumsnet name like mine (il mio nome e "asino celeste") GB - and yours is ...

FdZ, dunno if you noticed, but (like the sad person i am) I transcribed a load of grammatical stuff yesterday and tbh I don't think that'll work. I'm going to work my way through the book and post on here to keep my pecker up I think. Unless you have any bright motivational ideas?

Just saw your post on the other thread. I may go and do a class in the new year. I'm going over there next year at least once and I'd like to get to a point where I can cope with the absolute basics before that.

My mum lives near Perugia where there is a Universita per Stranieri - you can go and do a full time course there for very little money - I'd love to do that

Can I join you? I've got GCSE French (MANY years ago) & I teach Latin, so I've always thought learning Italian would be the logical next step!

Shall go & buy the book tomorrow...

grazie!

spacedonkey · 14/12/2004 13:38

benvenuto carrieg!

hmm, will have to think.....
How about getting some Italian vesions of Cosmo/Hello to translate?
Is there an italian cafe/restaurant near? Could you be cheeky and ask if you can practice (in Thailand/Vietnam/Malaysia people in cafes ask to practice english on you all the time)

spacedonkey · 14/12/2004 13:40

yeah there are loads of italian cafes/restaurants/delis around here FdZ, but I am too shy to go and accost them. Last time I went out an italian bloke asked if he could lick my legs

OP posts:
spacedonkey · 14/12/2004 13:41

I will get practice when I do a course/go over there next year, my aim at the moment is just to get the basics in place so i can do simple things like order food/ask directions/buy a train ticket etc
