Have a couple of questions

Little one will be starting nursery next week and she is one in July so just wondering if I should ditch the sterliser before nursery? Any point sterlising few weeks before I'm stopping again?

Also re nursery and germs etc it's chicken pox season anyone getting their child vaccinated ?

X

Surely if you use hot water that kills the bacteria no?

Yes, or effectively it kills enough of the bacteria so that it's not a threat. Any milk that is then left at room temperature the bacteria will grow again to a risky level. So in theory it doesn't matter as long as you make the mill fresh every time BUT a small amount left in the nooks and crannies of the bottle/teat (bits that you missed when washing, that you can't even see) could be dangerous, hence the advise to sterilise.

@pfisher oh I see I didn't realise
Don't want to be sterilising for another year!

What I mean is I'm
Not keeping her on neocate when I don't have to
She's a healthy weight loves her food and mainly eats what we do so sure she will be fine in soya or the alternatives others have suggested

I cut out bottles too very soon after with my first when she got to a year - just used a cup so planning same with my second

It's a small risk but depends on your own feelings about risk. You minimise it by always using hot water to make the formula, by being super careful about washing or as you say by switching to a cup which has less parts to keep clean. Though you still need to mix the formula somehow. So yes if you can switch to the oatly milk and it ticks all the boxes then that's great!

Also her birthday is 21st July - and we go on holiday 3rd august - is this enough time for her to get the CP vac and shift any side affects ? Know it's a couple of weeks

No, it isn't. You have to wait 4 weeks between any live vaccines, which both the MMR (1 year jabs) and Chicken Pox are.

Also, you need two doses of chicken pox vaccine and they have to be six weeks apart.

So you're looking at a minimum of 10 weeks after your 1 year jabs before your child could be fully immunised against chicken pox.

Just to add, we had the chicken pox vaccine for our son and he had absolutely no side effects. I know he's definitely come into contact with other kids with varying stages of chicken pox both at nursery and at swimming class and not had them at all.

That's good to know. So she is 1 2 weeks before we go - would I be able to get her vaccined when she's 1 without or affecting her 1 year jabs ? Thing is I have no idea of her 1 year jabs - my doctor will send me a letter but as we haven't got that yet I can't plan it

Or wait until after the holiday ?

It's France for a week travelling with another baby x
