8 month regression - desperate for help

8 month old
Last 3 weeks - has learned to sit confidently, pull himself around, get up on all fours and babble non stop. Tooth came through about 10 days ago. Recently went on holiday - UK based.

Came back from holiday on 29th May - had 2 days of great sleep from small.

Since then it’s been utter chaos.

Varying between 2 and 3 naps a day, varying in length from 30 mins to 1h45. Often trying to take 2 naps and then having to succumb to a third at around 5pm as he’s so exhausted from
his two (often far too short) naps earlier in the day. I’ve tried letting him nap for about half an hour at 5pm which seems to result in him being overtired within about 20 minutes and becoming a screaming, babbling mess that won’t go to sleep for hours. I’ve tried letting him sleep through from about 5:30, which has worked a couple of times, but also caused horrible split nights.

As such, bedtimes are now varying from 17:30 to 21:40.Have had to resort to walking him around in his pram to try to get him to sleep at times as he’s so wired.

Night wakes are more frequent, which I can just about handle, but bedtimes are lasting for hours which is not working for me or my partner.

It seems that I can’t get sleep right at the moment and I need someone to help, desperately.

In terms of environment, we’re on blackout curtains, pink noise and a red light. Temp up to 24C unfortunately but using appropriate bedding to mitigate. Sleeps with dummy and comforter.

I wait for sleep cues before trying to put to bed - grizzling, rubbing eyes, nuzzling into my chest, yawns etc.

Bedtime routine is bath, teeth, change, boob, bed.

Any advice gratefully received.

Oh god this was horrific for us! No advice really other than it passed relatively quickly and now we have a consistent (ish) one wake in the middle of the night for a bottle and 10-12hrs sleep.

I think it’s just a case of muddling through it and doing what you need to do, with the knowledge that it will get better.

I’m sure there will be people with better advice but nothing we tried made a difference until he was ready to sleep better.

just read your post again, literally EVERYTHING you’ve written was the same - split nights, horrendous nights, over tired crying and screaming - if nothing else, it sounds normal in my limited experience and it will pass, I promise!

I'm currently enjoying the 2 year sleep regression, and the 8 mo for us was spectacular in the worst possible way!!!

Be as consistent as you can. You are doing everything you can "right". This is a phase. It will end.

No advice OP sorry but we did experience this also from about 7/8 months and nightly wakes last until 15 months old 👀
I put teething down to a lot of it

As trite as it sounds - this too shall pass. It's horrible though!!! Sending coffee and sympathy!

fitnessmummy · 10/06/2023 21:11

It's crappy but it doesn't last! ❤️

That should have read ‘horrendous naps’!

good to see others have had similar experiences.

Hope tonight is slightly better for you OP.
