High chair for small spaces

10 replies

Pickleasaurus · 09/06/2023 10:02

Does anyone live in a small house/flat and can recommend a high chair?

We are constantly tripping over our current one which although has "compact" in the name, is making things worse! the "compact" legs are at an angle which are an absolute hazard to life and limb; we fold it, and it still sneaks out on us when we're not looking.

Im feeding the baby on my lap because the high chair is more hindrance than help, but DC is so wriggle that it feels like feeding an octopus 🐙

Kind suggestions please x

We have a Tripp Trapp, just pushes under the table like a normal chair!

We used a clip on chair for our youngest and placed it over a normal kitchen chair. It meant there was more room for manoeuvring in the smallish kitchen and DC3 sat up at the table learning to eat and join in from their siblings and parents rather than being treated like a princeling in our old large plastic chair. Having said that , I like the ikea chairs , they are quite compact and can be put away.

Ditto pp - just get a booster seat for a normal dining chair. They prefer them when they get older anyway. Our one comes with a foldaway tray and you can use it on the floor with that as well. Very handy and takes up much less space.

@PollyMumsnet

Thank you ❤️ that's a helpful link .

we went with the Chicco pocket snack, we can set it up at the table where we have our meals and the baby loves the tray. It's not too hard to clean.

The other options were very pricey for us (some were our entire monthly grocery budget), so we'd have a beautiful wee chair, and not a thing to feed in it 😅. And we have a growing family in a small space so the IKEA one (although I love it) is just too bulky, we'd have little ones tripping over those angled legs and it doesn't fold. Although our old one claimed to fold, but would unfold itself and fall out of my Monica closet just when you least expected it. So at least the IKEA one is honest in its charms.

I’ve just bought a chicco pocket snack high chair from Amazon it was only £25, folds up really small, straps onto a dinning chair, but can also be used on the floor or on a blanket in the garden for picnics. My granddaughter used it for the first time when visiting the other week, and my DIL thought it was great

We used a Phil and Teds one which clamps on to the table so had no legs at all. It was great.
