Constant rash on toddlers face - suggestions please!

Hi

Attaching a picture to see if anyone’s wee one has had this before and what you used to clear it up?

She has had this rash as long as I can remember. It’s on both sides of her face. This is it quite calm but it flares up at different points of the day and looks more fiery.

It doesn’t seem to bother her at all but it’s very dry. We have been to the doctors and they have suggested different creams etc but I feel I have tried everything and nothing seems to work.

I want to try and avoid a steroid as much as possible so looking to see if anyone had any suggestions. Iv noticed it a lot worse the last couple of weeks and I definitely think she has hay fever as she is sneezing like crazy, watery eyes etc and I don’t know if there is a connection there.

Thank you!

No help from me I'm afraid but following with interest!
My toddler has a bumpy rash on her cheeks too. Flared up last Friday and has been up and down since then.

She does has a milk allergy so we were wondering if it was a sign of a reaction but has never had this symptom before.

We're using epiderm at the moment

Does he have a milk allergy? A rash was the first sign in my DS.

Have you tried an antihistamine?

That's similar to the allergy rash my son used to get.

Thanks for your replies. No she doesn’t have a milk allergy that we know of anyway. She doesn’t have any other symptoms and been fine since she was a baby. We did try dairy free for a few weeks to see if it made a difference but didn’t notice any change.

Yeah she takes Allerief daily just now (chlorphenamine) but again I don’t think that’s taking the edge of hay fever symptoms.

We have tried epiderm as well but again no difference. I think il maybe try dairy free again but give it longer and see if that makes a difference.

I should say it was even prompted by contact with clothes washed in the 'wrong' detergents (but he also got rashes from ingesting the wrong foods)

I can't be sure what it is. But my ds had rash on his cheeks for a long time which didn't seem to bother him, until I realised it's probably eczema.

Try Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Emollient Cream. You would know within a day or two if it works. It worked wonders for mine, usually within 8 hrs.

My toddler gets this, and a friend who's son has several food allergies suggested it could be contact dermatitis caused by food getting on his face, as her son has the same issue. The doctor agreed and prescribed a barrier cream to be applied before meals which has really really helped. FWIW mine had CMPI as a baby but has been able to tolerate eating dairy/drinking since about 12 months. The doctor thinks the dairy is probably the cause of the contact dermatitis, but went with the cream rather than restricting his diet as he has no other symptoms.

Hope that helps!

My 2 year old gets this, we use the Expert Midwives nipple cream and it always clears it up overnight - no idea what causes it though!

Hellno45 · 08/06/2023 10:29

Keep a food diary. My nephew had a milk allergy and was the same. My friend's daughter flares like that after eating egg. Check with your pharmacist if you can give piriton. I'd put Sudo cream on it but I use it for everything. We call it magic cream in my house.

SeeingSpots · 08/06/2023 10:31

It definitely looks like a food reaction and is likely to be milk especially if it's always been there since she was a baby.

I know you say you did 3 weeks without milk but if advise you to try again and be mindful milk or milk products are in bloody everything so you have to be super alert to checking.

Hey, just wondered if you found anything that helped this? My LO has similar, his are small pimples with redness, can’t see from pics if hers are the same? I’m wondering if it’s keratosis pilaris but would love to find something that helps x

Skylaar · 09/12/2023 14:12

I have this as an adult; it's definitely not allergy related in my case and steroid creams, etc have no effect. I've never found an answer either.

Ek3009 · 10/12/2023 14:45

@Lmarles05 hi! No we’ve never found anything that has made a difference. Still there but it never bothers her.

I think it could be keratosis pilaris also. She has the same sort of rash on the tops of her arms and I also have it on my arms.
