Books for new readers

I've just found out my 4yo can read quite a lot of words. She's been doing phonics at nursery and has suddenly taken a real interest in reading at home and wants to read some books. We read together every day but I'm looking for books she can take the lead in.

Can anyone recommend anything appropriate? We've been given some phonics cards and she could read the 4-5 word sentences which used very basic words so I'm thinking there must be some books to start us off?

PS I will ask her teacher but we're on half term this week

@Fivemoreminutes1 thank you so much, the first set look like they match the phonics cards we have so that'd be great.

If you're on Instagram then @anactivityaday has some good recommendations! Also good for activities to do with the little ones too :)

Yes thanks we are big fans of our local library and go every fortnight but it's fairly small so I need to reserve specific titles to have them ordered in. I'm looking up these titles on the catalogue.

We have the Songbird books by Julia Donaldson. Also the Usborne reading library (we have two different collections) and Biff Chip and Kipper books are a hit. Also the Apple Tree Farm collection by Usborne.

Nothing really to add except you should follow the suggestions given! My DD was a big Biff, Chip and Kipper fan at that age. Bear in mind that its not really worth buying them - they are very short, my DD would often get through more than one in a day once she was getting confident, and she wasn't interested in reading them more than once for the most part, she wanted something new. I bet you can borrow them from school and/or local library.

My son also liked Biff & Chip, there's loads of book bundle's on Vinted that are very cheap.
I also used to write my only little books when my son was little and in bed. Just used some plain paper, staples and let my imagination go wild..A lot of them where about a naughty duck, he found them hysterical. Wish I'd kept them now.

Thanks all!

@TinyTeacher I'm trying to reserve some of these at the library but didn't occur to me to ask at school, they're fantastic so I will ask her teacher if there's anything we can borrow.

I also remember reading the original Biff, Chip and Kipper books back in the late 80s!
