Trip away with the girls?

I'm thinking about going away on a 3 night break with friends in October, but feel anxious about leaving my son who will be 19 months old. I love the idea of some sun and relaxation, but in reality, will I be able to relax?! As soon as a get excited about the trip, it's quickly followed by anxiety around leaving my boy. I've never left him more than a few hrs, even with my husband. Friend think it would be good for us all, for me to trust others with him, but I just don't know. Thoughts?

Just go. Let your husband have a few days with his boy.

Can you work up to it, do a night away now and see how you feel? I had 2 nights away from the kids recently and it was an absolute dream. But 3 days, in particular if they weren’t packed full, might feel a little long… hard to say really.

Basically, it’s a balance. Time away will rejuvenate you. On balance I think I would say go for it.

I’ve been away with friends for 4 nights when my son was about that age, it was great. I’m very much out of sight, out of mind so I didn’t spend all day thinking about him. Obviously I missed him and was very excited to see him again but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the holiday.

Is your DH not his dad? I wouldn’t consider leaving your child to be cared for by his other parent an exercise in trust?? But if he is his dad and a decent parent then go go go and have fun, sounds like you really deserve a break!

@FlounderingFruitcake yes husband is dad, and he is great, loves him so much! But... doesn't have the same... instincts?! Like yesterday, we were going to the beach, I asked him to suncream our boy, then dress him in spf swimsuit. I meant cream all over, he only did his hands and face, missed the feet - and I would have put all over! So things like that worry me a little :-/

At least October won’t be beach weather so little chance of that happening again!
Maybe it’d be good for him to be the primary parent for a bit and it’ll force him to be a bit more on it. Go out for the day soon and see how they get on? Consider it a dry run and I bet they’ll be fine together.
