My son (10) has been feeling sick a lot over the last few weeks with some leg pain in between these episodes he’s fine we’ll the last 2 days he’s been on the sofa feeling sick to his stomach so I dipped his urine to check for anything abnormal and he had high ketones I freaked out and popped to a&e were they pricked his finger to check for diabetes which thankfully was normal so doctor said take him to gp for a blood test, well today he’s eaten and drank plenty and he still has high ketones, what would cause this? Waiting on docs appointment but worried

Infections raise ketones.

Not eating can lead to ketones in urine.

Sorry should have read properly. How long has he been back to eating properly it can take a while before ketones disappear.

Just tested his urine it’s back to normal, the sickness has eased off as of now still going to take him to the doctor and get the blood test done also he wasn’t eating much for 2 days and since he’s eaten and drank today they have gone

Vomiting and not eating causes ketonuria, if he’s eating normally today and the ketones have gone, that was likely the culprit. Hope he’s on the mend!

Strangly he hasn’t vomited:/ he’s also sleeping a lot :/
