For a nine year old...

One pepperoni pizza (just under 1000 calories), bowl of chips, bowl of quinoa and a salad.?

It seems a lot for one meal.

Hermione101 · 04/06/2023 19:49

Too many calories, too processed and where’s the protein?

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 04/06/2023 19:52

A lot of quantity, nothing wrong with the meal itself just in smaller amounts. I'd do 2 slices of pizza, chips and then a salad.

How did they fit it all in, my DD has a hearty appetite but unless you're burying the lead and it was a mini pizza and small bowls of chips and quinoa that's a lot of volume of food.

champagneplanet · 04/06/2023 20:16

That's quite a lot for one meal.

Half of the pizza (assuming it's a big one), handful of chips and a salad with cucumber, peppers, etc, maybe some coleslaw. That's what mine have quite regularly.

Summerishereagain · 04/06/2023 20:22

It’s a huge amount for one meal. But more importantly is what else they have eaten and what they been doing all day? Was it 8 hours of exercise or just watching TV?

NuffSaidSam · 04/06/2023 20:25

It's a lot. Fine if it balances out over the week. Too much if every meal/most meals are that big.

Factors like height/weight/exercise levels etc are also relevant.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 04/06/2023 20:26

That sounds like a lot of food!

Hellocatshome · 04/06/2023 20:26

Seems like a lot of carbs for 1 meal, did he really need chips and quinoa? But then depends if this is a regular thing or a one off and what his activity levels are like.

FatGirlSwim · 04/06/2023 20:29

It’s a lot, fine as a one off treat buy not the healthiest as a regular thing!
Is he having a growth spurt?!

Lcb123 · 04/06/2023 20:33

Not as a regular meal, that’s very high calories, incredibly high salt and so much processed food

Fiddlerdragon · 04/06/2023 20:36

For one meal, who cares? If it’s served more than every couple of weeks, it’s shit

Justcallmebebes · 04/06/2023 20:45

This and really, really unhealthy

bellac11 · 04/06/2023 20:48

Without any context its impossible to say what to think.

Because if its every single day, its a lot of carbs, lot of processed

If its a day where the child is starving hungry, theres context to that

The cheese and pepperoni will have a lot o protein in it, and quinoa has protein in it too, depends how much quinoa

The chips are not too bad depending on how many and if they are oven chips

Not a lot of green but then what did the salad consist of

No one can say with any accuracy but Im sure you'll get lots of criticism for it. If its you serving the meal of course.

greenspaces4peace · 04/06/2023 20:49

what an absolute bazaar combination? who eats a bowl of quinoa (just quinoa or lots of stir fried veggies in it and herbs), chips...as in french fried potatoes and pizza, equally strange no the two don't mix unless in the back seat of a car with 3 teenagers who picked up a ready meal at the fast food drive through.
did the 9 yr old clean out the fridge and prepare this himself? in which case good on him for being resourceful but if you are in charge of meals this is only suitable for a buffet table with other actually fresh stuff.

Pteryl · 04/06/2023 20:50

Sounds like they were starving and that’s all you had in the house. It’s fine, don’t worry.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 04/06/2023 20:53

That is quite a lot, as a regular portion of food it's unhealthy and too much.

But occasionally, for an active 9 Yr old who hasn't eaten heavily the rest of the day - not terrible. I'd dump the quinoa though unless he specifically has asked for it, just have the pizza chips and salad as a treat meal!

bellac11 · 04/06/2023 20:56

No such thing as an unhealthy foodstuff or meal, only an unhealthy diet

FurElise · 04/06/2023 21:12

I'd struggle to get my 9 year old to eat that volume of food in a whole day! When we go out for pizza, he eats about half of his and brings the rest home (though it usually ends up in the bin 2 days later).

Dacadactyl · 04/06/2023 21:19

I'd have said a pepperoni pizza had more than 1000 calories in it tbh.

This. Really, it’s a meal.

How's it too processed..?

Depends how big it is.

BrutusMcDogface · 04/06/2023 21:27

Seems a lot but I agree that context is everything here.

My kids eat oven pizzas once a week but they don’t have any sides. My 9 year old daughter, who is very slim and fit, can eat a whole big pepperoni pizza but she wouldn’t eat all the rest of that stuff at the same time.

Willmafrockfit · 04/06/2023 21:29

i dont know how big the pizza is
or how big the quineo is
not sure the quineo is necessary as well as the chips though
